Significance is relative to the culture. His brand name wasn't appreciated as much because he held far less influence than Edison during his time, and the utility of his inventions were fairly specialist in nature. Those that were ubiquitously significant (like AC power), he licensed to Westinghouse for them to leverage against Edison. He ended up hating the fucker.
