Let me present you with the following points:
If you are asking "what about the roads?" you seem to be assuming that the current system of roads we have is optimal. Far from it. We absolutely have an over-abundance of roads, which leads to many problems. I understanding this is a strange, foreign way of thinking: too many roads? how is that posisble?
Consider that, constructing a road thrown a city/town, is a way of denying that area its total sovereignty. Suddenly you are opening the city to mass transit, immigration and mass movement. Not every town/city needs roads, but under the current system roads are practically mandatory.
Roads lead to breathtaking amounts of pollution. This is obvious true. But roads also lead to shitty living conditions. Millions of people have to lie next to noisy, dirty, shitty roads. And the commute to and from work? One of the worst, most depressing rituals for the average American.
Is the current system of roads, really optimal? Is it possible, we have too many roads? I think it is, and I think we do.

Why do I need an elected leader to build the roads that I need?

Another thing to point out is that roads are very destructive to the environment, which any Nationalist would be in favor of protecting.
