Is there any kind of punishment that has been proven to reform people? It seems like when people become comfortable with being deviant, like, it's hard to get them to go back to being on the straight edge.

I guess a potential solution would be capital punishment, but I mean, if we killed everyone who committed all sorts of crimes, we'd probably kill like most people in the world.

Also, in the US, the average American commits 3 felonies a day.

mic.com/articles/86797/8-ways-we-regularly-commit-felonies-without-realizing-it#.j50b6fw3s

So should we just get used to crime?

How would you like it if you made a tv show, or a computer program/app, or you wrote a book or made a song or hell, you crafted a cool excel spreadsheet. All with the intention of selling it. And then once it started selling, some linux faggot decided to torrent it to the rest of the world?

That would suck man. That would mean you would lose all that money.

Also, fuck linux-open source people. You have to compensate/pay people for their hardwork.

However, I guess if you're poor, there should be a cheap option for your pay scale, I think. So that way you're not incentivized to steal people's stuff online.

mate, one of the members of our parliament (belonging to the socialist ruling party) asked on twitter of someone could provide him with a stream to watch a football game - that's how "strict" the piracy laws are in portugal. the only time they've acted was to close a tracker that was too obvious (the owner was taking a huge profit) and other spoon-feeding websites which allowed you to watch tv series already subbed.
ah, another thing: the ISPs were ordered by the state to block the piracy sites kek. but you know, if you use google's dns they can't prevent you from accessing those piracy sites :^) literally only a retard in portugal doesn't know how to go to piratebay and download whatever he wants.

Furthermore, there are a lot of people who pirate media out of principal, no matter how much they enjoy it.
If Anti-Piracy measures were enforced correctly this wouldn't be feasible, and instead would provide revenue for the content creators as 'pirates' would have no option other than to purchase the product.

Its over for media. The world has changed and it no longer holds the forms it used to. The law will have to change eventually to reflect that however at the moment people are trying to fight reality. Technology changes things certain careers go away and everyone understands. Something like media changes in nature because of technology and suddenly we try to force it into shape through law.

The genie is out of the bottle and it will only get worse in time as less experienced people die off. There are still models to make money but companies need to change. Streaming like Netflix has show you a possible model. No one wants to but your movie directly anymore though.

Cable is also dead walking.

>>132873222
Trips of truth confirm.
Piracy will always exist, even with heaviest DRM that can be implented.
What they actually do is screw over legitimate customers.
Let's look at the Netflix for example. It's users can't download a movie, they can't watch it on device of their choice, they can't transcode it if necessary, you can't share it with your friend, they are internet-dependent.
Pirates can do all things about and are not internet dependent.
Who wouldn't pirate when with pirating you get tons of "features" you aren't getting when watching legally.
>>
>>132873105

Then explain it to me.

If you are such a smart redditor you should be able to explain how you could have acquired the knowledge that molymeme does not get threads on reddit without you going to reddit.

Nope. Cruel and unusual - would violate the 8th Amendment. What kind of American are you?
>>

>If you are such a smart redditor

i never claimed either attribute

no one said none, no thread

but rather that there is a enormous disparity in popularity
its all here for your reading and illumination

I dare say not even 10% of Americans here respect their state and American values. But ironically the remaining 90% call themselves ''nationalists''. Once you take it as a sort of joke this board becomes nice.
>>
>>132863445
>Also, in the US, the average American commits 3 felonies a day.

I doubt that. How did you calculate it? This sounds even worse than the retarded 'rape statistics' of the kingdom of Sweden.

Jews did 9/11 because of this.

You are a redditor and claim to be smarter then me..

>no one said none, no thread
So you admit to being a redditor?

>but rather that there is a enormous disparity in popularity
>its all here for your reading and illumination
You still do NOT EXPLAIN WHY YOU ARE NOT A REDDITOR.

AND STOP WITH THE REDDIT SPACING.

again, never claimed either

the line was:

at least not in any manner that you have grasped
:(

it harms nothing
i find it useful

>Should we brand people who torrent "THIEF" on their foreheads?
Copyright infringement isn't theft.

Punishment is a classic case of treating symptoms and not causes, the cause of most crime is things like lack of empathy for others and socioeconomic stresses. The biggest cause for lack of empathy is mistreatment as children, same for a drop in IQ points which leads to less opportunities for well paid work in later life.

We'd stop far more crime if we did things like treat children well, the aggression and violence they still see, even in middle class western families is huge. If you want a nice society then you start by raising kids well. Stop hitting kids, stop the verbal aggression, and learn to negotiate with them and display empathy towards them.
>>
>>132863445
This is a dumb concept. Most of this break the law without realizing it is just bureaucratic bullshit. We should eliminate laws where a victim can't be produced. You do drugs, fine. You don't take care of kids because of it, crime.

There is literally nothing wrong with torrenting. Digital media in an age of high speed global communications is essentially post scarcity. Digitial media copyright laws on and the draconian measures by which they are enforced are about the jewiest thing out and ya'll are just lapping it like good goys.
How can you complain about the leftist agenda in movies, games, and tv brainwashing people only in the next breath to cry "B-buh Mr.Goldstein and Disney NEED those sheckles to make Kill Whitey 2: The Electric Boogaloo!"
>>
>>132872807
Complete and utter faggot.

Stealing is stealing, faggot.

You are a dirty thief, and I would hang you before I hang the jews who made it
>>
>>132879087
By definition making a copy is NOT stealing.
>>
>>132872517
>Did you take something against the owner's will? Yes.
Copying things isn't taking them.

The reason we have copyright law is specifically because theft law does not apply to copying information, you cannot prosecute people for theft if they do something like copy an mp3 from someone else.

Here's a simple cartoon that explains the concept in a way even a child can understand https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeTybKL1pM4
>>
>>132872688
>Jews buy all the air
The air isn't for sale and the jews did not create air so it's a terrible analogy.

If humans needed air, and no air existed, and then a jew created air and put it up for sale....then yes you would be a thief. We night have more sympathy on you because it's air, and instead of hanging you would only serve a life sentence of hard labor
>>
>>132864304
really, how difficult do you think it would be for say, MS or Adobe to make their shit pirateproof? MS dont do it as they quite enjoy being the most popular OS, just enough copy protection hassle to discourage completely casual piratery and make business owners think about the consequences - same with Adobe, they know fucking fine 'Photoshop' is a now a generic term because their shit is so widely pirated, they could prevent most or all in an instant.

Go to an art show and copy their art. See how that works.

Share copies of their art for free...see how that goes.

You've seen the FBI warning 1000 times....even if you do not sell the stolen/copied IP you are guilty of crimes.

You fucking thieves are so intent on following Satan that you will come up with any retarded justification that satisfies your evil, faggot mind.

It is not a matter of what I agree with, the definition itself is incorrect. it is not stealing, as stealing intrinsically implies a loss of some kind, likewise with theft. if there is no loss, there can be no theft

Food for thought, according to you. borrowing a game from a friend for a week is a federal crime. where are all the children in a maximum security penitentiary?
>>
>>132880348
why can't you answer the question? why wouldn't you have to get permission to speak english? how is that not theft, by your definition?
>>
>>132879678
Impossible. Even the most professionally made and invasive DRM on the planet has never stopped amateur cracking groups from cracking the software, purely as a hobby.

And building those DRM systems takes a lot of time and costs a lot of money, so it's not financially viable to do it unless the increased sales cover that expenditure. Especially difficult because you actually lose sales to legit customers when you make DRM too invasive.

It's not completely clear that preventing piracy makes businesses like Adobe worse off, many of the professionals who pay for the software to support their businesses started life pirating the software and learning on it. There's never been any decent studies done to suggest long term harm is done by piracy.

In fact there's many studies that suggest the exact opposite, that the people who pirate things like games and music on average spend a lot more on the media than non-pirates.

>>132879739
>U.S. IP law says you're wrong
Intellectual property is a branch of law that was invented SPECIFICALLY because you can't use existing law (theft) to prosecute copying. If US law acknowledged copying data as theft, then IP law would serve no purpose.
>>
>>132863445
Be more precise and brand them "JUNKY WHO DIDN'T PAY HIS DEALER".
