Cant talk for the US, but here you pay a local council tax that pay for most of those services, with 'some' money coming down at the state level for reasons....

But aside from the local tax, national taxes are more likely to go to lining someone else's pocket that help the people it came from, its why governments have to keep borrowing more and more money..

You never really own land you just rent it from the state.When you sell the land the state title company takes their cut. The rental starts all over again with a new tennant.

Income and Sales taxes are really dumb, the only other taxes that make sense are specific consumption taxes like on gasoline, since people who use the service like roads are paying for their upkeep, cigarettes since they are paying for increased healthcare infrastructure costs, etc.
