Why are trade workers so much happier than STEM workers?

Is it the lack of $80k in student loans?
>>
>>132767138
They aren't, here in Canada. While they make a great deal more immediately than a college grad, the atmosphere our country pushes that uni is the only way to go constantly makes these guys doubt themselves.
Very few go into trades, and those that do are those whose families have been in it for generations or they didn't have another option.
>>
>>132767138
They also have a job that gives tangible results. I would die if I was a desk jockey
>>
>>132767518

Sound like projection to me. How could you possibly know that trade workers are "doubting themselves" on not going to university when they have jobs with good pay, houses and families?
>>
>>132767138

Anyone here in carpentry?

I really do not like my degree. I don't see how I can be successful in my field when I have so little passion for it at this point.

I'm looking at going to back to college to qualify as a carpenter so I can actually start making a living.

I don't care about being rich. I just want a solid job that doesn't stress me out that provides me with a decent standard of living.
>>
No beat offs in the trades.
>>
>>132767518
In Ontario our courses for Grades 9 and 10 are split into levels: Academic, Applied, and Workplace.
For grades 11 and 12, these become University, College, and Workplace
>>
>>132767138
Both are cucked here.
Our skilled trade labour market has been ruined by immigrants (the ''based slavs'') who do any job for minimum wage (most times even less)
>>
>>132768638
see, >>132769316

Stay in your degree. Nothing will be fixed until they're sent back
>>
>>132768417
I'm talking about the younger guys. It doesn't take a genius to realize that all statistics point to trade workers average age as 45-50+. They aren't doubting themselves. It's the young ones, who jumped on the oil wagon, rode their new F-150 out to Alberta, got fucked when the oil crash happened and are now out of work. Or the guys who became electricians but the regulations in the Ontario building code fuck them in the ass every year and the competition in the field is worse than STEM because employers don't want to waste that amount of resources on someone who isn't the top cut.
Trades only pay later in life if you start a business, and right now the old guys have the market saturated. When they're gone, one of two things will happen; their disinterested kids will liquidate the business, or they'll take on the mantle and face labour shortages worse than Europe after WWII
>>
Stem student here. No loan and still depressed as fuck. Must be' something else
>>
>>132767138
Aviation is badass. I make six figures the last couple years and I'm only 28.
>>
Trades have high salaries in US because they are heavily unionized and work many jobs for the state
>>
In US stem unemployment no different than lib arts, you just sucked a bigger lie in uni
>>
>>132767518
It's sort of the same thing here. My dad was a tradesman and he always said I was "better than that". I dropped out of college and spent a lot of time trying to get back before I finally realized that there is nothing wrong with learning a craft. In fact at this point, (I may be talking outta my ass here) trades workers may make more money than the average college grad. You know. With all of the focus on social sciences and gender studies.
>>
If you like trades, great for you.

I've done construction for the past few years and I'm looking to get out.
>>
Doing a physical trade makes you feel like what you are doing matters. And the money is usually pretty good.
>>
>>132767138
Are you unironically trying to convince people that your manual labor job that your uncle got you is better than an office job paying twice your salary
>>
Is being a radiographer any good?
>>
>>132771664

If you have an office job paying $120k a year and you're actually happy with it then good for you. I get to run into burning buildings and help people at work. I love hearing how STEMcels are happy with their jobs "writing code for a auto rental company".
>>
>>132771664
I would rather have a job making 40k if I was happy than one making 80k if I was depressed
>>
trade workers are sub categories of stem

carpenters, electricians, welders, ,mechanics ect are all engineering subcategories

medical field is biology and chemistry aka science
>>
>>132768890
This. If you want to get into a trade you would talk the workplace level classes, in which case you'd be surrounded by literal retards and degenerates. There's also the fact that high schools shame you for wanting to do anything other than go to uni, to go as far as calling everyone who doesn't get post secondary education poor.

They really fucked with me and a lot of people I knew. I would have been happier going into a trade but they treat you like a retard just for having the idea.

>>
are there statistics to back that up? seriously doubt it. the only positive i can see from trade workers is physical excercise while on payroll, but if you go to the gym as STEM thats a non-issue
>>
>>132768638
Carpentry gives a shit-ton of money, even here in Brazil. But you have to be really skilled. It's something I wish to learn.

>>
>>132771440

That's why I'm looking at a trade. I've fucked around so much starting and stopping and tripping over shit trying to prove to myself that I'm cut out for something high flying and I've spent a miserable 8 fucking years destroying my self-esteem, wasting time and money and getting absolutely fucking no where.

I think I'm ready to admit that I'd be happy just learning a trade and working it out from there.

I hate how fucked the education 'industry' in the this country has become. Every damn kid is pressured into this idea that they can be a rocket scientist or cure cancer.
They can't. We can't. The numbers don't work.

How can they keep this lie going? What is everyone supposed to do with themselves?
We've become a nation of degree holding baristas and retail workers.

Better to get a trade now before people finally catch on with the farce that is university and all those kids start going for trades instead.

>>
>>132772883

It's absolutely not for everyone, but for people who find burning buildings, high-angle rope-rescues, and overturned crushed vehicle rescues fun, it's our crack.

Not bad for not requiring a college education ;)
>>
>>132773281
Yeah funny thing is you have to be in the job like 20 years to even max out your comp and STEM interns still make like 25 dollars an hour
>>
Trade workers see concrete results from their work, they get paid rather well in most cases, and can often choose how many hours (money) they want to work.

Sure, the foreign guest workers undercut some trades, but there are plenty of patriots who refuse foreign labour, and the work is often of worse quality, which many home-owners are afraid to risk (why save 10.000 dollars on a new roof if it turns out to be leaky and you get a 50.000 dollar fungus infection)

There are also far fewer women in trades. Not to go all MGTOW here, but I really think that some or most men thrive better the fewer women they have to work with (depending on field and the individual women of course)

Source: I work at a factory with zero women in hard hats. The cantina and administration has a higher number of women than men though.

Homogeneity, we're pretty much the same guys all around the world, there are sometimes issues with egos but those are individual cases.

Enjoying work is Alpha Omega in construction, and bosses know this.

You can't work 12 hours in pissing rain/snow if you don't enjoy the people you work with :)

Currently on break, waiting to finish this staircase. If it's something you're genuinely interested in, carpentry is one of the most versatile and stable trades you can find. I've done everything from making hipster furnature to building apartment complexes. You get bad days like anything else, but i've never once regretted my decision to follow my dad into the trades. I strongly recommend seeking an apprenticeship

>>Making good money, good at it, but working in government.

almost everyone I know in NJ state government has some sort of business on the side. They work for the benefits and the pension (lol). Shifty shit really. The city I live in had cobblestone streets up until pretty late, 40s-50s, and still has a few downtown. There were massive piles of them laying around and a city councilman back in the '80s sold them, under the table, to contractors for two bucks a stone and pocketed the money. Must've made a fortune, they only figured it out after he had died

I repeat this a lot but if you go into a trade do so with the goal of being self employed or go union at the very least.
The money is in running your own business not breaking your back to make someone else a fortune. Even if it means going it alone.

I read an article recently that Israel has a severe lack of skilled blue-collar workers. So severe that there are entire factories closing down due to understaffing after older employees retire.
What's even more surprising is that these jobs here begin at around 2000$/month and can reach upto 4000$/month.
Not the high-life, but not too shabby either when you consider the median wage in Israel is around 1700$/month.
Really makes you think why nobody takes up on these jobs.

>>132778364

London is a shithole. The best plan is get a good degree, move to another based country and get a good salary that will set you up for a good quality life, instead of just saving for holidays whilst being so fucking depressed you want to throw yourself off a bridge on the M25 most of the year.

I do not have my degree. Another 2 years left.

I agree with you on the victim mentality and have no time for dossers on a job (lots of retail experience) but the UK is in a place now where millions of young people are literally out of genuine options.

Once the smoke screen dissipates it's going to be more obvious how fucked employment in this country is.

It's one thing that people have a shit work ethic, I've seen it a lot first hand, but it's also a thing where there just aren't enough decent vacancies in this country to meet the demand.

For most kids it's basically a choice of start working in retail or go to uni and then start working in retail.
If they didn't go to Uni first we'd have even more kids scrabbling for jobs that don't exist.
As the service industry becomes more and more automated... It's game over. They're going to call for a universal basic income within a decade I bet.

What is it that you do, out of interest?

Based on experience here, its because STEM is completely over saturated because everyone is pushed into it, so its very competitive and lots of work compared to the pay.

t. someone who fell for the stem meme, worked for a couple of years to pay of my dept got sick of all the stress and bullshit, then decided fuck it and now doing non-stem work at about the same pay but with less hours per week, lots less stress and many more freedoms. Plus now I can step back and say 'I made that, that works because of me', where in stem you fill in paperwork, do one small piece on a project, then it gets mothballed for 5 years and you never see any results of your work.

Submarine Electrical Tester reporting in.

I started this job about a year ago after nearly a decade of misery in STEM jobs. I couldn't be happier.

Some days are strenuous, some are mentally challenging. My honor is tested due to the responsibility I'm given and real people can get hurt if I fuck up, not to mention the company losing money. My signature on test forms is my word.

I feel more like a man than I did as a cubicle jockey counting down the minutes until happy hour. Now, I look forward to the weekend so I can come into work and make crazy money if I am so inclined. Or not come in and enjoy my much happier life.

Oh, and I've saved up more in this year than I did the past nine.

Icing on the cake is I'm in a union whose boss asked us to vote for Hillary. 9/10 of us voted for Trump.

My good buddy works as a tree surgeon. He got hooked up through work to a guy with a business in NZ. He's moving out there in a couple months with his lovely girlfriend, both have good jobs lined up in a really nice area, good house lined up... He's set.

All he did was decide that he liked working on trees, went to college, plodded through a few years on the job making decent money and now he's set.

Same with everyone else I know who grabbed a trade. They all have good women. They all have satisfaction. A lot of them have emigrated to greener pastures.

Then I look at what I have and what my graduate friends have and it's all stress, debt, cunt girlfriends and living like rats in the city.

> I agree with you on the victim mentality and have no time for dossers on a job (lots of retail experience) but the UK is in a place now where millions of young people are literally out of genuine options. '

I disagree. The best thing you can do for your life is to move abroad. It sounds like a big step, a big deal, and it is, but it's totally worth it because the benefits outweigh the negatives.

The people in the UK are being sold a lie and on that you are correct, but it's not going to change. The attitude of the people is they want it to get more fucked up and heading towards further degeneracy under the guise of progressivism.

The reason competition is high is because London has been sold as this dreamy place of multiculturalism when really its a cesspool of shit. That drove up prices in London and had an impact on everything elsewhere, as demand then spread.

Also, even if you get a degree in the UK you will get a shit salary for years and won't get a mortgage until you're in your 30s, if you're lucky, or unless the bank of your mother and father give you help.

The cost of living is also sky high and the UK is not as great as people think. The NHS is in a terrible state with ridiculous waiting lists, transport is expensive, the food is unhealthy so its no surprise so many people there are whaling it and there is a drugs epidemic nobody wants to address because coke fuels the banking sector whilst other drugs like heroin and meth help keep the degenerates monged out, and stops them protesting or causing problems.

I work for a corporate company. I came here after uni, worked my bollocks off and got recognition for it and have done well continuously. In the next few years I'll buy a detached place on the outskirts of the city with a nice garden.

Any young Brit staying in the UK either has a legitimate reason such as a relative that needs care or is insane. You don't owe that country shit.

A workers mood in labor is ones own interpretation, although can take on the view of mainstream perspective

I'm in the opinion University is for thinking, if you enjoy thinking, and knowledge, and want to be the one calling the shots even, go to University so you can learn how to manage and market to contemporary society.

Or you can be a well functioning cog in the system, and there's nothing wrong with that because labor in human society is like the labor of cellular functions in the human body; everyone has a very important role to play in the functioning of society and I wish for the very best :)

Been in construction whole life, 3rd generation.
Started by sweeping floors around 14 years old.
Moved into carpentry - framing and trim.
Moved up to foreman.
Start going to night school after work for bachelors in business.
Pay as I go. Still busting ass. Sleep during class because it is really easy having been degraded so far as to not fail any students.
Get a degree. Move up to site superintendent.
29 years old, have degree and trade, 60k Salary, sky is the limit.
My friends who were supposedly smarter for considering high-end school their "job" are loaded with debt and serving in restaurants and bars.

I will still sweep the floor of the site that I run. No job is beneath you. Make yourself invaluable to the operation. Take on all the responsibility and make everything that happens around you your fault, and you will earn respect and succeed. It's really not that hard.

Work hard, don't lie, pinch pennies.

The simple fact is Britain is too far gone.

Do you want to go down with it? Or do you want to enjoy your life and then go back and reclaim your homeland once all the degenerates have killed themselves in the War of Victimhood?

I would not go back to the UK even if I was offered over £100,000 per year. The place is an utter shithole.

Krakow is a much better destination. Great nightlife, based population, beautiful traditionalist women, great food, no retarded nonsense or victimhood mentality, strong work ethic, beautiful architecture, all the good shit that matters.

The question is, 'what life do you want?'

Do you want to binge drink, barely make your way through life in the hope of enjoying it in retirement whilst a woman now wants you for your salary but didn't back in uni as she was far busier getting passed around like a joint at a get together.

Or do you want the nice traditionalist wife that is family orientated, wants a nice house in the country where you both go away together to spend some time whilst the grandparents look after the kids, enjoy your life and know that she takes pride in the house.

Nobody in their right mind would stay in such a regressive shithole like the UK. Only degenerates would stay there and anyone that stays there and gets fucked over - sorry, but you had it coming. Don't cry to us when your 'wife' files for divorce after 2 years and you lose all your shit.

I started IT work for an isp at the same time as a friend started his IT degree

By the time he finished he was deep in debt while i had been earning the whole time

Now he has found out he would be expected to work one of my old jobs as he has zero work experience while i am 2 jobs ahead.

Hard work is far better on your cv than years of debt and no real xp

Learn on the job and you can get where you want to go just as fast, debt free if you work hard. Smart people do not require higher education

Many people go into STEM because they think they'll get rich and it will be cool. If you actually have the mind to enjoy a certain STEM field and pursue it it will be an enjoyable career because you're doing what you're good at. If you're not good at it you'll be miserable even more so than most jobs you don't really want to do but do anyway for the money. Programming for example is a really good one sure people throw together random script kiddie shit all the time but programming as a serious job is absolute hell if its not something you're really good at. To get hired at 99% of places requires a degree as well and regardless of whether you like your field or not most colleges tend to be a cesspool of social engineering where you spend more time blocking out the brainwashing than you do learning about your job and really you can learn more online anyway but still need that expensive piece of paper

TL;DR if STEM is really your talent go for it you'll be happy if it isn't what you're absolutely the best at and you force yourself into it it's hell

Do it. I have an engineering physics degree from a decent school. Worked two years in academia and five in a private lab. Now I work designing & installing robots/cnc, pneumatic/hydraulic systems or any industrial nonsense that may be needed.
I'm happy and the difference in pay isn't that much. There's something to looking back into a building at a delicate arrangement of pipes and wires going everywhere and thinking "That works because of me"
Also colleagues aren't stuck up twats as often as in academia, let alone the firm I worked at.
Start looking at community colleges and the certifications they may lead you to, and either bypass the community college entirely, learn on your own, and take the certification exams or go to school. A very strong and very common one is the IFPS certs, although that's mostly for hydraulics and pneumatics (which are largely needed at the moment).
Consider welding, but don't think of it as a long term career. There's a reason there aren't any healthy old welders.

Thing is nobody makes fuck all in Canada unless they're a wealthy globalist or high ranking government.

One of my motivations to get a CS degree and even bothering with Uni rather than just starting my own business (other than the fact that you can't really start a small business in this hellhole anymore unless you can work off the tax radar for a few years) was hopes of getting out of this shitty country and moving to the USA but that didn't happen and then it turns out I could have just joined the US military and gotten citizenship upon leaving but now I'm too old for that. Most westerners are fucking victimhood faggots thats why.

1. The immigrants took all the jobs
2. The immigrants are all on benefits
3. The straight white males oppress everyone
4. White women oppress black women

There's victimhood badges to collect now, and once you collect some of them you join a victimhood group.

1. Are you black? Welcome to Black Lives Matter.
2. Are you gay? Welcome to LGBT rainbow flags.
3. Are you a woman? Welcome to feminism.

All these people have the same mental illness. They believe the world owes them something for nothing, that it's everyone else's fault that they're in the predicament they're in, and they will stop at nothing in the race to the bottom to prove it.

They are all degenerate scum with no introspection skills and the exacerbate the blame culture that has ruined civilisations. These are children trapped in adults bodies that go 'oh but they started it' like any self respecting adult gives a flying fuck.

Also notice how many of these faggots don't have real jobs. They are dependents in some way or another. They are either unemployed, students claiming financial aid or working at some government institution whilst being supported by someone with a real fucking job. They have no clue what real life is because their mothers and fathers didn't prepare it for them.

Their parents bought little Jessica a horse, and called her a princess, and when she screamed and yelled daddy told her he loved her and gave in and little spoilt Jessica then realised she could scream and lash out to get her way or punish those who didn't do what she wanted. So she screams mansplaining, manspreading, rape culture, wage gap, blah de fucking blah cry me a river.......

This is why Polish immigrants get jobs. Its because they turn up on time, dont watch the clock, dont fucking cry about it being hard or underpaid and get on with it.

You are your own worst fucking enemy.

All Western European nations are degenerate.

> UK - Islamic Sharia Court
> Germany - Capital of Kebab Empire

None of the above countries should be taken seriously on anything. These nations are full of people who haven't even got the bollocks to protect their own culture.

Usually, just put in jobs and the country domain and you'll be fine.

Another good option is through LinkedIn, and take advantage of the free premium trial.

As for speaking English, as a native speaker you already fly to the top of the list. Who do you think they want talking to the clients in the UK/Aus/USA? Native English speakers who understand the lingo and culture.

Being a native speaker only works in your favour, especially in your private life. Girls in this part of the world love Brits, but if you're one of those drama faggots then they'll not respect you one bit.

What you think engineers learn in school? How to change oil or wire to code? Dude, engineers have to learn all the levels of calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, chemistry, physics AND then leanr specific courses for their field (mech, elec, civil, bio). You voted to leave the UK because based Poles were taking your jobs, and now you are going to have a mass skills shortage because your country is full of degenerates that rather protest about trannies and muslims than work hard and earn their stripes doing an apprenticeship.

Sorry if the truth hurts you but that's just a fact. As for fully leaving, good luck with that. The UK won't leave the single market/customs union because money talks and the corporates will decide your fate, not you.

I'm even open to betting you £100 on it because its just obvious what will happen. Kiss goodbye to your rights, your freedoms, your vacations, you will be fucked in the ass even more by the government and you will thank them for it, all whilst Jamal is ramming your wife and Ahmed is bundling your daughter into a car.
>>
Sparkanon here.

I wouldn't recommend becoming an Electrician to anyone in the UK, certainly not if you are going to be house bashing. Myself I have spec'd into ventilation as that's gonna be a new big thing here soon.

Problem is that the average house now has so much more stuff to install. Every bedroom has extra sockets, kitchens and bathrooms have extra spotlights where once you would just have a regular light fitting. Most new houses have some sort of fancy heating or a solar panel that needs extra wiring and most of the time this extra stuff is just not included in the price.

On the building site I would say the joiners are earning the meat bucks. Specifically the timber frame guys. A lot of new houses have gone from traditional brick build to a timber frame and those guys are on crazy money.

The kitchen fitter too is earning crazy money. They can make £1000 a week easily whereas I am having to bust my balls to get anywhere near that now.

Yes, supporting Islam which is opposed to gay rights is progressive. Good job on the mental gymnastics there faggot. Clearly didn't do a STEM subject at uni did you given your capacity for understanding logic.

As for transexuals, do you also think we should treat those with anorexia by pumping them until they're fat, making their physical selves the same as what their mental understanding sees them and understands them to be? If so, you're beyond retarded. Good luck with that.

There is a reason many transexuals commit suicide and its because people like you, rather than push for expensive continuous help push quick physical fixes upon them in the name of political progressivism which leaves them even more fucked up.

Fixing a mental issue, as it is outlined by the WHO, by altering the physical state to fit that mental perception, is absurdity to the highest degree....but only in the progressive west where everyone is a cisgender free spirited black male to female apache attack helicopter is this normal.

This. People act like trades have nothing to do with engineering/technology. It's all based on engineering practice and implementations, and maintenance thereof of via technician work.

Scientists, engineers, technicians and tradesmen all work within the realm of applied science, also known as technology.

Not only that, but with trades you have job security. When they created the unemployment benefits, it began to kill the trade industry. People were more willing to take a risk in some stupid art degree knowing they could just soak up benefits if they can get hired for somewhere for a couple weeks as long as they don't get fired for cause.

When you knew a trade, you could work for yourself in a worst case scenario. Now people just want to do things that they like, even if it doesn't benefit society. Which is why the government or billionaires have to create grants for that BS.

On occasion it is beneficial, for example... Seattle requires that 14% of a building's budget go to interior design... so you'll have more interesting/nicer places. It's a fairly beneficial regulation in the world of regulations.
