I was going into 7th grade in 2009, and Michelles lunch program came into order. Our school was a nice public school, and we had around 10+ choices a day. My favorite probably was the Taco Chicken Patty. All this shit was fresh too. But then the Michelle Initiative came in, and made us switch to Sodexo, and the food was utter shit. Floppy Pizza with no sauce, Nasty Watery Pasta, and of course, "Chicken" Tenders. And for some dumbass reason, they banned chicken tenders, burgers, pizza and salads on Wednesdays and Fridays. So kids bought chips and sodas from the machines. They took those out and sure enough, a protest came. At least when High School came around, it was open campus for lunch, with local businesses letting us use our school lunch cards. Kinda like at a college. I graduated in 2015. Better food in college towns than there.

I make my kids take a bag lunch. I make them sandwiches with fresh bread from a local bakery, fresh meat from a local farm, and vegetables that are either from a local farm or from our own land that I grow myself. I also give them water that was put through a ceramic filter. They get fresh fruit as a side. They're only allowed junk food on the weekends when we go out. And guess what? My kids don't have any allergies and they aren't lardasses.

If you can't provide the same for your kids, you aren't in a position to have had them yet.

Secondary was a whole different beast since we had a buffet of all sorts of shit that we'd buy from a check-out like it were a store. The poor kids could get a free amount of credit to buy their food with. All this was in pretty shit faith schools in the north-east.

This is pretty much how I remember my average school lunch. Bland as fuck but it did fill me up so I rarely complained. Thankfully, my high school was small and really focused on the lunches and while university lunches weren't free (still aren't) you got like a 70% discount on campus restaurants and they had pretty decent and varying food.

I'm assuming the nuggets are chicken. I can't necessiarly recommend eating fried food but it's not that bad. Peas for fiber and protein, mashed potatoes for vitamin c and calories, meat for protein etc. Cookie probably not necessary but kids love sweets.

there are memer high schoolers on here that want you to think that to feel political, but most schools (i guess not poor ones, mine was middle class with a high income area in the area too)

one lunch was sort of like this. chicken nugs (looked way better), mashed potatoes and gravy, some other veggie, not peas, and a scoop of fruit like that.

but on top of that, there was a daily salad bar
(taco bar on tuesdays), multiple kinds of soup, and a concession stand that sold much higher quality shit (premium chicken nuggets, sbarros tier pizza) that you needed to bring cash for.
