I would try KJV, and if your really into studying it look into getting something like a concordance Youngs is a good one

Alexandrian or Vaticanus? Wescott and Hort developed a test to determine which version was the most correct. They used the older manuscripts, however there are parts missing and different verbal when translated into english. The KJV and the NKJV are the Vaticanus text and are traditionally recognized as the correct version. The Alexandrian text is the versions Westcott and Hort worked with and are the basis for all of the other versions like the NIV and the ESV. Personally, I use a KJV, however even it has gone through revisions. A 1611 KJV, which is the original, is readable but difficult to understand at times.

According to this website not even KJV (due to probable twisting of verses or mis-use of typo corrections), but the "Authorized King James Bible 1611 edition" is the pure Word of God. It went through 7 sword upgrades to become the perfected "Pure Cambridge Edition" and is suppose to be the final authority. The only thing that's kinda strange is, publishers don't produce the PCE anymore, but rather promote other bible translations that have missing essential verses on about like repentence and not mentioning the Father's real name (aka Jehova), etc.

It's also worth occasionally dipping into the Koran as some of the pedo anons are suggesting, just to see how shit, inferior and shallow it is in comparison to the KJV.

The Koran is very repetitive and formulaic, it's literally a handful of pages of copy pasta being repeated with only slight variations. It is also incredibly dry, and has nothing interesting to say. So bear in mind that you have to understand how science works well enough to know that evolution is not proven but rather a theory. And then you have to understand that this theory isn't really all that compatible unless you want to get doctrinaire about particular bible passages you like.

And then from there it's pretty easy to accept that either or both might be wrong. But I would feel bad for any Christian who hadn't at some point doubted the existence of God enough to be unable to imagine an alternative.

This is the only right answer:
KJV if you're Protestant, Douay-Rheims if you're Catholic. Here is why.

The main point has to do with source material, and then of next importance is the actual translation of it, and then of next lower importance is the final product.
The KJV gets its Old Testament from where Protestants are supposed to get theirs from, the Masoretic Text. The New Testament comes from the Textus Receptus, which a scholar named Erasmus compiled from the more traditional Byzantine Type Text. Most new translations get their New Testament from the Dead Sea Scrolls (among other things) that have not been used by Christians for centuries.
The DR comes from the Vulgate, which was translated by Jerome from his source material into Latin, and has been preserved through the centuries. For the OT, it uses the more traditional Septuagint (retaining the 7 books), and for the NT it uses the best Jerome had at the time, which was likely something similar to the Byzantine Type Text.
Both the KJV and the DR are translated literally, as opposed to translated in a paraphrased sense. This means you get closer to the source material. They are both translated into Middle English, and because of that it is harder to twist the meaning of the words and phrases with your own cultural misunderstandings.

The Not King James Version borrows from the Westcott and Hort New Testament, which use Codex Vaticanus and Codex Sinaiaticus as their basis for "correcting" the Byzantine-line text that the King James Bible was derived from, and that Christians have always had access to prior to the (((archaeological discoveries))) that found a bunch of new manuscripts that don't agree with each other.

They keep all of the verses usually omitted in the other modern versions (NIV, ESV, etc.) but then they put in the references saying "This was likely an addition not found in the original" based on what the shit they dug up in clay pots says. It's an exercise in casting doubt on the whole Bible, and proves that they don't even believe in the Textus Receptus that the KJV is based off of.
