They said you came down here to fight, and we just want to go home grow corn. They would just want enough left over to make a little whiskey with.

You think the civil war had anything to do with slavery? You should learn some history. Slavery was maybe 5th on the list of concerns/priorities. Even the victors planned to deport all the blacks afterwards but then found they lacked the resources.
