France lost more people during WW2 than the UK, also France lost half a generation of men in the trenches just 20 years before (and that's without counting the crippled), noone deny the fighting spirit was low but every single western county did the same and they did not have the excuse of the Great War (like the danes or the dutch), french were just war exhausted after their pyrrhic victory during WW1.

Also the situation of french under german occupation was very different from the slavs, not that they did not suffer barbary or that a shitton of people were not deported in forced labour but it was not of the same magnitude as the poles for example who were treated like animals up to the higher class.
Most obvious example is how the polish intelectual elite was totally purged while the french one was barely touched.
