Earlier, there were a multitude of different taxes and things got especially bad when goods needed to be transported across state borders, which is basically everything. This leads to a fuckload of paperwork and loopholes for corruption to grow in, not to mention the amount of tape you have to crossover just to move a thing from A to B.
GST removes all that bullshit by uniting the entire country under a single tax regime for all types of goods.
This is the kind of economics that we should've implemented in the fucking 60s but all the socialist policies derailed the entire thing.
