I live in an uninvolved state, so I am unbiased in the affair, but I can say Confederates were way cooler than Union.

You look at old confederate things and it really was a unique and interesting culture, with some really sexy imagery and pride.

Then you look at the Union and it was just "New York" culture and ranks filled with poor Irishmen who were conscripted against their will.
The only likable thing about the Union was Abraham Lincoln. He was a really "based" guy with the right ideas. But culturally the Confederates are cooler in that era.
