No one was familiar with the term "neoliberalism", or the underlying ideology, at that time, so her political ideology was christened "Thatcherism".
The Thatcherite takeover of the Conservative Party was not straightforward. The Thatcherites were resisted by the old guard "One-Nation Conservatives". ONC itself had been a Disraelian reinterpretation of "High-Toryism".
Thatcher considered Tony Blair to be her greatest achievement. From the outset of her premiership, British society changed dramatically. Thatcher led fierce attacks on "collectivism" and, at the same time, undermined communities across the country, softening them up for what was to come - neoliberal economic dependence on permanent inward migration as a means of inflating growth (at the cost of per capita income). This was anything but Conservative.
She sold off, closed, or curtailed vital strategic industries, undermining national security - anything but Conservative.
She increased wealth inequality, undermining social cohesion - anything but Conservative.
Unfettered free markets are not conservative. That is a libertarian principle that had hitherto been alien to the precepts of British Conservatism.
Thatcher literally killed the Conservative movement in Britain, leaving many - like Peter Hitchens - politically homeless.

British policy was to prevent Russia or Germany from controlling this territory, and the latter from dominating Europe. The US did not coerce the UK into joining the EU - we joined to counterbalance German influence.
BREXIT was an accident. It's thrown almost two centuries of British foreign policy and geostrategic thinking into chaos, at a time when the US has gone AWOL.
The plan was always to force Russia to vassal status (Germany was already there) and keep China contained. Instead, Russia has been alienated and has aligned with the Han; Germany is now free of British influence and is beginning to slowly reassert it's independence and influence over mainland Western Europe. The Anglo-led Atlantasist Empire is becoming more and more isolated.
This is a radical change in the geopolitical balance of the world, "radical" being the antonym of "conservative".
This is the reason that most "conservatives" in the Conservative Party are pro-EU (!= pro-European), whether you agree with their analysis or not.

Some modern Tories, like Cameron, Bojo, IDS, etc. lay claim to being ONC's. They're trying to lay claim to the "Compassionate Conservative" brand. It's horseshit - Thatcherites to a man. There is still a sizeable minority of Conservatives in the Tory Party, but most are on the margins.

Her radical privatisation and closure of the mines basically destroyed working class communities in the North.


She defended the Falklands and cracked down on the IRA but other than that she created a very atomised society.

Ultimately she was a failure.

She was a disciple of Powell, possibly Britains last great hope for salvation, but she differed with him on some major areas;

She couldn't let go of the idea of Britain being great again, rather than, like Powell, accepting that the Empire was over and it was time to protect the British people and culture and become Switzerland 2.0
