The two aren't mutually exclusive.

But while mainstream culture makes Hitler a caricature of a genocidal monster, the far-right makes him a caricature of a perfect leader who could have brought about a utopian golden age.

Both are wrong. Had things gone differently for Hitler, there would have been plenty of flaws in his perfect Aryan society, and degeneracy would have crept in just as it crept into the modern West.

And in the Reich of 2017 a bunch of nonconformists would be sitting online romanticizing 1940's America or even Russia, and how everything seemed to be on the right track back then until Hitler and his political establishment allowed this or that to happen and ruined everything.
