Trump is kill!

House bill that would allow Congress to remove Trump from office gains momentum after Trump's feud with 'Morning Joe'

>Twenty-five Democratic lawmakers now back a bill that would give them a path to remove President Donald Trump from office,Yahoo News reported.

>The bill would create an Oversight Commission on Presidential Capacity, and it appears to be based on a section in the 25th Amendment which allows for the president to be removed from office if the Vice President and either a majority of Trump's cabinet or a majority of Congress sign off on it.

>The specific language of the relevant section of the amendment reads:

>"Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President."

Anyone think that Trump is doing this on purpose so they have no choice but to impeach him?

More bullshit from the Dems. This won't fly, they would need an official declaration of unfitness from the Surgeon General, and they won't get it, because Trump is fit - the Speaker of the House and the Surgeon General already determined that.
This is just more fake news and propaganda, it won't go anywhere. But it shows how the Dems will waste huge amounts of time and money over their tantrum, instead of doing their jobs and helping make the country work. I know the GOp were idiots with the birther shit, but they didn't go this far. The Dems are just digging their hole even bigger for the next elections. "What did you do for us?" "We wasted money on a fake commission to try and get Trump declared incompetent". Woo. And people wonder why Illinois is broke and on the teetering edge of bankruptcy.

the position of "acting president" is for a situation where, for example, the president has been shot and is still alive, but is unconscious and unable to act as president. the moment he dies the vice president becomes the president, but until then the vice president becomes acting president.

knowing the left though they will try to say he is mentally ill and will try to gaslight americans into believing it.
>>
>>132139072
Yup. Unless enough of Congress wants to override him, which will never happen.
>>
You can't impeach the PotUS by:

A) passing a law that impeaches him automatically
B) citing his mean comments on social media

These so-called experts on american culture and politics don't even have a basic understanding of the way the political system works.
>>
>>132139653
It's not impeachment. The article uses that word, but it's not accurate - but that's the level of journalism we suffer through these days.

There are some fairly specific rules in the Constitution to remove a President from office, for medical/mental health issues. They're not easy to get done. Trump could pass a competency hearing no problem, and they'd have to rewrite the Constitution to get around it. These rules have been there a while, they're to cover instances like when JFK was killed, or Reagan shot, and the chain of command is invoked. Like, say Trump starts showing signs of dementia. That would be a legit reason to remove him, if it's bad enough. That's what they think they're going to get done, or larping they will. (I just think it's more shit throwing as part of their extended tantrum)
And, I don't think they want to go down the competency path, with some of the behavior of Waters and Pelosi this past year, both of them are showing signs of the onset of dementia. Pelosi has referred to Trump as "President Bush" several times, for instance.
>>
This is just getting out of hand guys, thank god Clinton isn't president.
>>
>>132141660
I haven't read the 25th in a while but IIRC all he needs to do is write a letter announcing that he's not mentally unfit and then the entire process is basically DOA.

Trying to rabble rouse and scare Trump in to resigning has to be one of the most pointless and stupid angles yet. Half or more of the government easily should be locked up in a loony bin.
>>
>>132138019

>>
5 months until his first year is complete, do you think after December thy might accept they aren't going to get him out
>>
>>132142208
Not to mention that he was already assessed by the Surgeon General to be fit to serve. All Presidents have a vetting process between the election and the inauguration.
This is just more waste of taxpayer dollars as part of their extended tantrum for losing. But let 'em do it - they'll have to justify it in their next election. They're the party of do-nothing, this is just more of the same.
>>
>>132142323
They've been working on the Pence angle since forever, which is a much more reasonable angle because the Trump Train crowd proper has always been wondering if he's a token establishment hack or what. The most interesting part of that angle is how it comes up once in a while but they never really run with it, which makes it even more believable because (((they))) always lie and deflect.

I can't envision a betrayal of that magnitude, but doubtless Pence is finding himself at a difficult crossroads of influence.
>>
>>132138019
I know some nobodies who view president trump as their personal nemesis and every time something like this comes out they latch onto it and won't shit up about it for weeks, then they die a little when it amounts to nothing.

>>
>all the people ITT saying that the president must be proven to be mentally or physicallly unwell by a licensed professional
Not necessarily. The 25th amendment is vague on what it means for the president to be "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office." The Supreme Court has already ruled that impeachment is a political question, and you could make a similar case here. The amendment is clear that the VP and Congress are in charge of declaring the president unfit for office however they see fit. So you could remove Trump for being a meanie on twitter or for golfing too much.
That being said, I don't think the GOP will back this bill. But it's interesting to think about.
>>
>>132138019
That is just silly. Assuming 25 Democrats suddenly find a way to put together a majority in the Republican dominated House AND Senate, and create this commission, and the commission says "Trump's Crazy, Pence is now acting President..." then what?

Then the President files papers to say "No, I"m fine."

At which point the Congress has to decide if he is right, with a 2/3rds vote needed to keep him out of office... until he files another paper saying "I am fine now," and they have to vote again. And this goes on and on and on...

If they had 2'3rds of the House and Senate wanting to remove Trump, impeachment is faster, easier and permanent.

Unless they admit there is nothing on which he can be impeached, and I doubt the 25 most insane leftists in Congress will admit that, then this plan makes no sense at all.

So why are they talking it up?

It will feature prominently in their fundraising mail. "We are fighting against Trump, and our commission will remove him from office -- please donate $100/$50/$25 today to help us remove Trump from office! his time we really have him where we want him! THIS TIME for sure, we promise..."
If the
>>
>>132139072
I don't think so -- the language of the Constitution reads "such body as Congress shall by law provide." No role for the President mentioned.

But If a court ruled otherwise, then the Congress could override. If they have the 2/3rds vote needs to uphold the Commission in making Pence acting President, they could over-ride a Presidential veto.

Their problem is, they are not going to hasve that much of the Congress any time soon It is difficult for them to get the majority in the House because of how districts are drawn, and getting the Senate in 2018 is almost impossible -- there are not enough Republican seats up for election in '18 to give them a good shot.

This is on par with the old, idiotic, "The electoral college will save us" crap.

If they want to get Trump out of office, they need to shut up and feed him more rope -- the Russia dog won;t hunt, but at some point he'll fall afoul of the many laws defining how the President can acceptably make money on the side. At which point he'd be legitimately impeachable.

Unless they create so much distracting sound and fury over non-issues that nobody notices when he actually fucks up.
>>
>>132139386
No, that makes no sense. If he did not want to be President any more, he could just resogn.
>>
>>132144891
>he'll fall afoul of the many laws defining how the President can acceptably make money on the side.
he's been swinging the big dick of corporate law around for 50 fucking years without a single punishment, but he can't figure out how to get past those specific laws for 8 years?
>>
>>132138019
you don't even need half a brain to see this isn't going anywhere
>>
>>132140906
I had thought the wording there was more ambiguous, but on re-reading it it is pretty clear that the language requires the cooperation of the VP.

That being the case, I believe Pence would do his duty of the President were to actually go insane, because he is an honorable man. But if the President is guilty of nothing more than tweeting shit that irritates the left, Pence would laugh them out of his office.

So, more clearly than ever, yeah -- the fringe Democrats are grandstanding to keep their base activated and for fundraising letter copy.
>>
>>132141255
>>if the Vice President and either a majority of Trump's cabinet or a majority of such other body (the crazy Dems' "Commission of Psychiatrists") designated by the congress.Congress sign off on it.

None of this is happening.

You answered your own question. These are the kinds of people to blindly stir "Hope" (After telling them there is none) in their followers to squeeze every dime out of them before they are inevitably removed from power.

It goes like this
>1. We can't let 'x' do this! Things will be really bad!!
>2. 'x' does a thing.
>3. Theres no more hope, 'x' will ruin everything.
>4. Stir the pot about 'x'. Scandals, be it true or false. Anything to undermine public faith.
>5. Convince your followers 'x' can be stopped, rally them to support you with that sweet sweet cash.
>6. "At least we tried! Let it be known we stood in solidarity in these dark times! We will never give up!"

It's the only shot the Dem's/media.resistance have to get rid of him. This 25th amendment stuff wont go anywhere (unless he actually does go insane or has a massive stroke or something, which could happen to anybody) they can't get the super-majority they'd need to make it stick.

They are slowly realizing that while, yes, the Russians once again tried to fuck around in our elections, the Trump campaign either wasn't involved (or, at worst, there is no evidence Team Trump was involved.) Impeachment for that is not going to happen.

The only shot they have is that he will do something at some future point that would justify impeachment. My sense is that, IF he were to do so, it is most likely to be some financial issue. Maybe that's a long shot, but it is the only shot they have.

But if Trump does fuck up witht he money, or something else, and they are too busy screeching about his tweets and howling about the 25th amendment and generally not paying attention to what he is actually doing, they'll miss it.

However great or small a chance they have to get him, they will squander it if they keep on like they've done up until now.
