Because Obama was the Magical Black Man who could do no wrong. Progressives have no problem taking the moral high ground when their opponents are less than civil but turn a blind eye when their own side does it. Conservatives are similarly biased, of course, but they don't take on this mantle of the "enlightened good guys fighting intolerance in the name of love" which makes their double standard so hypocritical.
