I have a PhD, and I am stuck in the low-paying, dead-end workd of academia. I am a professor, and I am fully aware than my studentas graduating with a BA will make more money next year than I will with my PhD.
I am lucky. My colleagues who graduated with me did not land jobs. I was the only one who survived the academic job market. My colleagues considered me a winner for that, and they hated me for it. It is likely that, in whatever field outside acadmia in which they are now engaged, they are making more money than I.
Working on the inside, I assure you that academia is a scam to 70% of its workforce, even more so than it is to the debt-laden students whose souls and futures it grinds away. Luckily, I have no debt, as fellowships covered all of grad school. If I had debt, I could never repay it.
I have no wife and no children. I am probably too old and certainly too poor for either.

Planet fitness is cheap but they wont let you do the exercises you should be doing there due to their noise policy. Look for a cheap local gym, boxing / mma center or every try a YMCA or community center near you. All you need is access to the lifting equipment, none of the extra bs. Avoid personal trainers, they're stupid. Watch videos online and practice form at home with a boomstick. Start lifting with only the barbell and add weight weekly, even if its only 5lbs. Focus on form and you'll do just fine.

Also stop smoking weed. Wean yourself off it as you start lifting. That shit is awful for your mental health.

Boxing / mma gyms are the absolute best honestly. I was a hungry depressed skeleton and the owner there would always help me out free of charge. He even gave me shit if I missed a day. Great guy, really kept me motivated. The places tend to be smaller, closely knit, knowledgable groups. You won't get that at a regular gym. He only charged me like $20 a month.

Keep in mind if you actually do attend school, they almost always have gym access included in your tuition as well. Incase you can't afford anything else near you.
