The police departments of today aren't all that great. Straight policemen are harder to find everyday and some fear for their life, a lot have just left and gone into private work if they like security or investigative jobs. One of their favorite tactics is to use civil asset forfeiture laws to "seize"(steal) stuff like cars or money. Another tactic now being employed is to arrest then impound someone's car for a bullshit reason, release the person a few hours later, then try to charge $5k+ to get the car out of impound. You either hire a lawyer or don't get the car back...
