Why are millennials obsessed with living in big cities? My theory is that the "identity" of being a "big city person" is the biggest reason. Not jobs or reverse white flight or gentrification. Millennials are obsessed with how they're viewed as opposed to actual quality of life (you can blame social media).
Why do you think that they're still rushing to live in big cities? What would possibly change their mind to expand rurally or even back to suburbs? Will Gen Z want to live in big cities, too?

Hello OP, Im from a super small town and I only moved from there to finish College. There are not as many opportunities where i'm From. There's one factory and a couple restaurants. Once i'm finished with Uni ill be heading back though.

Personally for me it's about lifestyle. Commuting to work is a waste of time. I love being able to walk and get groceries or takeout in 5 minutes. Much easier to find groups for hobbies ect. Being able to go to bars with friends and walk or take the metro home is great
work in medium sized city until i have the wealth to have my own land, get the fuck out of cities people

There's too much gap of lifestyle from City life to Small town life.
It's only wise to live in town if you already have a good business there and you're 30+.
Cities are desirable because everything is so densely packed that you overall save a fuck ton of time. The con is the abhorrently expensive living space you pay for as a result.
As someone who has lived in the middle of nowhere, I can tell you only a madman or a shit shoveling farmer would actually want to drive 45 minutes to a store and 45 minutes back just to get a gallon of milk. Even if the land is dirt cheap.
