Personally, as a southerner, I think that slavery was wrong and that the forcible ending of slavery was reasonable through the system of law set up by the constitution.

However a war in which over a million american men, women, and children died. All remnants of southern culture and heritage erased (that is, all southerns, blacks included). Yep, the first 15-20 minutes depicts run up to and the Battle of the Crater. One of the most horrifying and fascinating battle sequences in film in my opinion. Unlike the 100% CGI mess of Star Wars, the whole thing was filmed with a live cast, the only visual change was tweaking the camera with a red tint to give it a more Hellish/apocalyptic feeling. Im no huge southerner, I live in MN and enjoy the comfy suburbs here, but I did have a lot of fun my trips to the south, and even though I dont agree with tearing the union apart, theres a lot of sad history down there.

I will say that Lincoln's reason for a whole U.S. was filthy and his figure as a hero saddens me. Learning the truth of Robert E. Lee and his faith to Virginia was my first redpill, especially after seeing protests by people who nothing of the man. It was General Meade who switched the USCT regiments out for the first wave at the last minute even though they had been training for nearly six weeks for the assault and had all the equipment (ladders, entrenching tools, etc.). To make things worse, the Union commander of the leading brigade was drunk on the morning of the attack.

Meade was later handed complete blame for the debacle by a Congressional Committee. Not that that was going to bring back the dead or anything.

TL;DR George Meade was a piece of shit who fucked up all the time and never took responsibility for it. Worse than Grant or Sherman in that regard.
