Well if you think about it a big part of pay is how much responsibility you have if the job isn't done correctly.

Medical professionals must be competent or people will be injured or dead - and lawsuits will flow. They are well paid.

Engineers must design structures correctly or buildings and bridges will collapse leading to injuries or deaths. Well paid.

Pilots must competently operate an aircraft or it will crash and people will die. Well paid.

Tyrell down at Taco Bell must assemble the Burrito correctly or a customer will be mildly inconvenienced.

Spot the difference.
>>

Pilots aren't paid well at all, actually.

Well in Canada anyway once you get some seniority with an airline its pretty good. 100-150k +. Plus the union is fantastic with a good pension and full benefits.

You are correct though, becoming a hirable pilot through civilian training alone is a meme. Insanely expensive, terrible job prospects for time building, no guarantee of hire... no pay and huge debt. Then the airlines wonder why they are facing a crisis level pilot shortage in the next decade or so.

ok fuck off actually

There is no general minimum wage, instead the companies sign agreements with the unions and these agreements set the minimum level depending on the employee's age and experience.

For example, these are the current (February 2016) minimum levels for employees in hotels or restaurants:

Age 17: 84,50 sek per hour ($9,94)
Age 18: 88,60 sek per hour ($10,42)
Age 19: 96,80 sek per hour ($11,39)
Age 20 and above, with no experience and no education required: 116,90 sek per hour ($13,75)
Age 20 and above, with 6 years' experience and no education required: 124,90 sek per hour ($14,69)

People aren't paid enough for most jobs as it is. They need a living wage for people who are willing to work and should eliminate EBT to force lazy able bodied fucks to go out and do something productive.
As it stands right now it's more beneficial for single moms to be on welfare than to get a burger flipping job. Fucking bullshit, this nanny state thing needs to stop and it should start with incentives to work, no matter what the level. Most burger flipping jobs are going to be replaced with robots anyway, so it'd encourage people to learn a trade.

you're not going to find anyplace in Norweay where you don't get paid at least 12$/hour for anyone over 16. At 18 most places have to boost that by about 20% and again at 20 years of age. At 16 I worked at a grocery store for 13.6$/hour, at an elderly home for 17$/hour and at as a dental assistant for 21$/hour before I started college. I don't know the specifics of how they do it but no business in Norway is able to take advantage of the minimum wage unless of course you're undocumented.

Police officers think they are going to help out the community and save victims, but all they do is corral the same idiotic shit rats over and over, and respond to the same domestic disputes where its the same dumbass woman who won't leave her drunk abusive man.

Everyone I know that gets into any kind of social work quickly realizes that shit rats will always be shit rats not because society opresses them but because they are fucking stupid and make bad decisions, and don't have the intellectual capacity to learn from their mistakes or understand the consequences of their actions.
>>
>>131647241
We have a pretty good welfare, I got about 38€/day when I was unemployed for almost a year so the minimum wage has to be better than that. Also almost every company pays what the unions have decided. This way no matter where you go you wont get paid more if its the same industry but you wont be paid less either. For example i get about 14€/hour + extras for evening hours and nighttime about 17€/hour and so does everyone I work with, also the longer you have worked in the industry you get better pay and its not per company.
>>
it depends on the productivity of the employee, there could be burger flippers that are so productive that they're worth $20 an hour, and others aren't even worth $5 an hour.

Aye boys, I'm a server and i make $2.13 an hour, but with tips i average $10 an hour. However, if at the end of a work week I average say $6.25 an hour because of slow days or poor serving, my company makes up the difference up to $7.25.

Of course servers that constantly require said assistance don't last very long. Personally I enjoy the meritocracy and on-the-spot cash. Some nights I walk out with $100 for only a 6-hour shift, and seeing as I only work during summer/ break months, my money all comes back to me anyway.

However I don't want a $15 an hour wage because I guarantee you most servers are far too retarded for their work to be worth that much. Wages based around your own ability (at least in this context) are better imo.
>>
>>131652109
If only it felt as morally rewarding to undertip a shit server as it does to overtip one that managed to make it worth not getting take out and eating it at home.
>>
>>131652364

I always try to be a pleasant server. Being well-groomed, well-dressed, with a clear face, shit-eating grin and friendly disposition can net you a lot of tips.

Of course I hate serving niggers. My sister works with me and we oftentimes pick up same shifts for carpooling. The other day a table of like 6 niggers came in at like 11:00am when we close at 12:00pm, ordered $75 worth of food, and didn't tip anything.

So on the one hand, you're oftentimes relying on the generosity of subhuman baboons, but there are always days when rich, white old people come in, you get to talking about going to church/ whatever, and they leave a $10 tip on an $18 check.

>>
>>131645513
you are literally arguing for everyone to get paid less and to qualify for gov't assistance.
>>
>>131653181
Minimum wage is literally government assistance. The argument is about how the government should or should not most usefully intervene into what we would hope to be a reasonably free market.
>>
>>131653570

If you assign an arbitrary minimum value to people who are objectively worth nothing, you are only lowering the value of those slightly better than the zero-value individuals.

Minimum wage being 15/hr will only negatively impact the people who are actually worth 12-25/hr, as they will not magically go up, and everyone will become equally poor as the market adjusts, automation is implemented to eliminate former "Minimum wage jobs" (See: McDonalds, Wal-Mart, etc). They're already talking about doing it in the quarterly reports.

Watch min. wage go to 15$ and suddenly no jobs are available at 15$ and minimum wage jobs are simply culled from the labor market because its' cheaper to have a machine do monkey-tier labor and pay one engineer to manage 50+ machines at a salary and with reasonable employment expectations.

Problem is the people working min. wage are largely shit-tier employees with no fucking dignity, work ethic or scruples. You can't invest in garbage.
>>
shilling
>>
>>131654163
I agree. I'd rather see an experiment in letting the minimum wage just get inflated out of relevance until we just do away with it altogether to simplify things. If there's some kind of exploitation or wrongdoing going on in a corporation, we have other means of redress -- corporations only exist in the first place at the pleasure of the government.

Sadly, it seems the automators are dead set on working out how to keep everybody on the reservation and in the bread lines until it's time for mass depopulation.

As a employer , an engine shop, $15 doesn't make sense for new hires with little or no experience. For every 15 or 20 kids we hire at entry level about one will still be employed after 24 months. After 48 months thew would be earning $20-30/hr because of training.

It amazes me how many are knuckleheads or suffer from substance abuse, usually booze. Can't work if you are drunk. Too dangerous.

Working in a startup or small business, which you should have stake in instead.

For big, efficient companies who need bodies on a floor to achieve a task, that task is flipping thousands of dollars per day, sometimes per hour. if the person has enough of a role to play that they are hired for permanent employment, they are worth 15 bucks an hour... maybe a little less.

of course this may cause employers to take other avenues to cut costs involving reducing the number of jobs to keep their margins large, which would have a worse net effect than having employees underpaid.

Supply for fast food workers is high, if one worker is fired the manager can find a replacement within days.

> Truck Driver

Mandatory 12-16 hour shifts and being required to be gone for days at a time demands a higher price. Not only long hours but the difficulty of the work, staying awake and having to prep to live on the road.

Its also risky since you can be hijacked, and they just removed the ability for truck drivers to carry weapons (which increases risk, and demands an even Higher wage to compensate).

> also a risk because, yknow if you've got a girlfriend or wife... thats a long time you're leaving her alone at the house.

It also requires training, which can sometimes cost more than $5000 out of pocket before you even get your CDL.

If you piss on the truck drivers you'll have less applicants, you'll have a drain on available drivers, and you'll have to raise the wages to get more people interested in taking the training.

> Welders
welders face too much risk for their job, and it requires too much concentration, and some lead time on training for them to be paid so little. They create something which is permanent too.

also the employment isnt consistent for welders

they get paid $40 per hour to make it worth their while

Any job that creates something permanent, non-consumable, demands a high price.

> Construction
If its not enough to pay for a house/rent as well as all lifestyle expenses then whats the point of contributing.

The only way you'll get construction workers to stick around long enough to get the skills they need (to make something good) is to pay them well. Though construction often pays as low as 10 or 12 per hour.

Construction creates something permanent (*well until some douche decides to tear it down). Jobs that produce something permanent, non-consumable, demand a high price.
