It figures. While healthcare here in Canada is slow, it's not expensive. There you guys have to deal with exorbant costs just because the government decided that it was best to fuck with the free market, which was making doctors insanely cheap and promoting competition.

How much do you pay a month for it? I pay like 1.5x my monthly internet fees for the plan I chose, it's set up so that I take care of little things, and if something stupid expensive happens then it takes care of me.

So far it's worked well the few times I've had to used it.

I had a friend who wound up with $100k+ in expenses after getting hit by a car. After he got taken care of no questions asked, he was able to apply for a federal grant to cover it after demonstrating he had no way to pay. It's not like the US doesn't have ways to work things out for people who can't afford much.

that's not entirely true. there isn't just one set fee/deduction that funds healthcare here. it is derived from taxes and transfer payments across a variety of sources. while low income owners contribute less, in real terms everyone pays and it's really expensive especially for what we get in return per dollar spent.

Yeah, see that's the kind of thing where I don't mind it being a little more expensive. Maybe it's too expensive and a broken system, but I can schedule things that aren't pretty much just elective like I call to make an appointment to see the dentist.
