Speech is probably tightly related to the origin of human intelligence. Basically our "speech" isn't mainly for communication, but rather reasoning.

So "speech" is actually the original fire or club. Once humans created language it altered how our brains developed and gave us intelligence and predictive reasoning.

We have examples of this actually. But it's not what you think. You need to learn language by age 4 or you will miss the chance to understand gramar. At which point you are cut off for life.
