I used to say this too, but then I met a girl from Sweden through a game of online dungeons and dragons I played through Skype (Yes, I'm a fucking nerd, come at me bro).

She talked about westerns (cowboy hats, indians, Oregon Trail, revolvers, lever action rifles, etc) and the concept of the "west" as it was in the 1800s through a certain kind of lens similar to how Americans look at medieval Europe or feudal Japan with the whole swords and armor thing.

The western was a legitimate culture at the time, something you could find no place else on earth. So America did have a culture. We just took it for granted because to us, it was just a fad to us. Nothing really anyone here gave a shit about. To others, not so much. There is a certain appeal to it.

Modern American culture? Yeah, its pretty shit, IMO.
