Absence could be due to pilgrimage, sickness or the untimely death when the heir was a minor. Thus stewardship could continue for years.

Most famous case is of Rama and his brother Bharat. When Rama was in exile , Bharat declined to ascend the throne. But he agreed to act as steward during Rama's exile, exercising the powers and functions of the king, but like Stewards of Gondor, her did not sit on the throne, but on a seat lower down, while the throne was occupied by Rama's wooden slippers.

Industry in Tolkien is complicated. Orcish industry is strictly about production, there's no art in Orcish blades or armor. Conversely, Elvish or Dwarven crafts are usually decorated or stylized. This is true and it is a shame. I once watched a documentary about beauty and the conclusion stuck with me.

If something is functional, but not beautiful, it will be abandoned the moment it is no longer useful. But if something is beautiful we will find a new use for it over and over again.

Think of typical abandoned buildings and compare them with beautiful cathedrals. We'll never abandon cathedrals even if we were to all become atheists. We'd turn them into museums or restaurants or something at least.

If we take something that is functional, and turn it into a thing of beauty, we never truly abandon it. I say this because the laptop I currently use is... deficient to say the least. It is weak, underpowered, and cost me at best 300 dollars. But since getting it, I slowly customized and modified it to my own personal specifications. Though I leave the motherboard and hard drive alone (I am not certain if I can just install a new mother board that is faster and better, so I err and say I cannot). Other little aspects get upgraded here and there. Battery goes bad? install a newer, better one, upgrade ram, Put a vinyl decal that personalizes it.
To any other person, this laptop, or even my computer cluster, would be tossed aside once the newest fad comes out. But to me, they're things that have beauty. They're simple objects, but they now carry a little aspect of myself. Some of my personal essence resides in them. So now they have beauty.
But SJWs and the likes? They use, toss, get new items, and continue the cycle.
In the end, I think that's why Tolkein is ignored by the mainstream for the most part, but embraced by /pol/ there is a thing of beauty and a relate-able aspect between his stories and all of us.
