Multiculturalism can't work. A multi-ethnic state working on the principle of civic nationalism can, provided it operates on the model of the USA pre-1965, and there's a dominant majority forcing everyone else to integrate.
I would have no beef with a country that is 90% white, 5% black, 2% asian, 2% muzzie, 0.5% gypsy, 0.5% jewish, and that's what you'd call a multi-ethnic state too by definition.
