California is successful because of a shoreline.
The most populated cities are always near water and the east and west coast of America have always been the largest places. Hollywood grew out of this and thus prestige that made it a wealthy place. Property is the largest contributor to wealth of the state.
Silicon valley is also the leading industry in California that generates the most money and can only grow as computing technology becomes more popular. Again, silicon valley is where it is because of the shoreline with communications research stemming from naval industry.
Why compare Texas and California? Why not Kansas and California?
