Undoubtedly Catholic Church contributed to development of Western Civilization. Mostly, because it has provident professional intellectuals, who help to save and expand antique works. But it seems, that it is more merit of its structure of power, than ideology itself. While I see many positive sights of Christian morality like labor ethics, or disdain for animal urges, wouldn't it be better if Romans adopted less bleeding-heart religion, like cult of Mithra?
