Yeah start with Spanish first for a year or so. Focus on grammar rules- that is where you will probably make the biggest mistakes and it will help later on when you learn Russian. Use Spanish/Russian everywhere you can with other speakers- even if it annoys people. Keep a notebook on you and write down words to use each day and make sure you use them. Focus on amassing 1000 words+ into your repertoire but you MUST also focus on grammar rules.

If you want to learn any language you are going to have to learn the grammar in a school or through a text book as you will not be able to pick it up proper on the street imho and try it out as soon as you learn it.

Remember to treat it as a long term self development project that will last the rest of your life. I lived in a small town in OZ but I set a goal for myself to learn 1 language every 5 years from the age of 16. I got to 3 but then realised that it was not the way the world works - if you stop using a language you forget it real fast. Focus on 2 and work on them the rest of your life - it will add to your life in many ways from pussy to moioney to confidence and just power of being a smart cunt.

Grammar of Russian is very difficult. Also we obsessed with movement. It's not enough to have just 'go', there's a bunch of verbs each specify if you 'go' by foot or by transport, if you returned or not, if you just come in or also later come out ets.

I am currently learning Russian and to me, as a Spanish speaker, it's not really hard (I'm only on the first level though).
Also Russian is spoken or understood by a shit ton of people, and it has one of the biggest internet userbases.

However don't let your hatred towards mexicans fool you, spanish can be either really simple to learn or as intrincate as you want, and has many brilliant literary works to say the least.

Learn the languages that your ancestors spoke, in my case it was either German or Irish Gaelic. I think you know which one I chose.

I speak Spanish on A2-b1 level, and I'd say that the verbs times and subjunctive form are more harder in Spanish, almost everything else is harder in Russian, especially verbs of movement and declension of nouns. For English-speaking ones it even more harder, as they don't have verbs cases at all.

Phonetics is more or less similar. The hardest part is that in Spanish all vowels must be spoken exactly as they are, while in Russian unstressed ones are reduced to some obscure sounds.
