Look at the top pensions. Some of those people are still working, and earning at least as much in salaries on top of their massive handouts. Some of them are even double-dipping, working for the same entities that are paying them pensions as we speak! I'm not complaining about highly-paid professionals, I'm complaining about people making good money for decades and then getting free money that the government doesn't have for the rest of their lives.

There's an argument that pensions are deferred wages, that these people earned them and that was one of the conditions of their employment. I understand that, and in normal circumstances, it's true. In this case, if the wages were really deferred, we would have made at the very least a token effort to be able to pay them in future. Instead, the can was kicked down the road because everyone in government knew the pensions were just a way to get short-term political gains. They were promised a long time ago to shore up the power of political bosses.

This is the key fiscal crisis facing Illinois and Chicago. Welfare to the poor is negligible, especially considering how hard the poor get taxed compared to other areas (10% sales, $0.07 plastic bag, incoming sugary drink tax that includes diet sodas but excludes Starbucks "coffees").

I understand all the stormer stuff and that this is just how /pol/ is, but blaming literally everything on black people isn't an ideology, it's just being a senseless pawn.

Detroit I'd say no, but Michigan as a whole is a great state. Not exactly "world-class" tourism, but nice quaint lakeside towns.

Chicago is pretty nice for tourism. Lot of world-class museums, good architecture, the sports team culture, good food, and a little bit of history if you're into it.

The city's normally good North of Hyde park in the daytime and loop and above at night. Things have been getting weird south loop recently, I've been hearing of muggings and shootings. Hell two weeks ago there was a shooting at 5:00 pm in front of the Art Institute (touristy area).

Probably more times then I can count. I work for a security company that subcontracts guards out to various places within about 150 miles. I've thought many times I was going to get shot at work because a dude in a ski mask was walking down the street or a guy with a hoody was walking up behind my car at 3am.


I think the incident that stands out the most is when I was guarding a metals refinery around 3am and I had my car backed into the fenced in lot with all my lights off and computer off.

I looked up and like a fucking movie I see a challenger pull up and three guys get out holding wither AR's or AK's. I couldn't tell, I could only see the outline of a long mag.

Called for the police and watch them get back into the car and drive off. About 20 minutes later I heard a ton of gunshots from what sounded like an high power rifle

So I think they were just parking at that dead end lot to get ready for a drive by shooting.

Now that I've been listening for a few minutes: I'm liking this dispatch stream with the ambient music. Really gives it a feel of a post Apocalyptic hellscape. Dunno if it's a common movie trope or not but it reminds of like a nuke already launched and will land on this city in 5 minutes and even though it's totally useless, emergency services still radios around trying to control an evacuation, with the nuke trail in the background already having exited the atmosphere, reached to top of its arc and reentered, aimed right for these people.
