It's going to become a real issue over the coming decades. A vast amount of jobs can be done by automation, so begs the question of how an expanding population will be able to support themselves with a shrinking job market.

Nobody really knows, but so far it's been true. That's why a lot of pundits are on the fence about automated fast food.

The one thing that they find ironic is how leftists protest for an increase in worker's minimum wage, and they just end up pricing humans out of the industry. Afterwards, those same leftists will gleefully order at the automated kiosks.

That's why a lot of people hate Gen Z. There's a disconnect between their beliefs and their actual behavior.

What retards think
>10 people make 100 shoes
>machine invented that can make 100 shoes with 1 operator
>1 person makes 100 shoes

What will actually happen
>10 people make 100 shoes
>machine invented that can make 100 shoes with 1 operator
>10 people make 1000 shoes
>price of shoes collapses because of oversupply
>your shoes become virtually free
"But what happens when the shoe market is saturated and we literally have more shoes than people want?"
The excess production will move to an unsaturated market, obviously. Instead of buying a few pairs of shoes you will get a few pairs of shoes virtually for free and buy a luxury car, or a yacht, or a private plane or something. Things that are unimaginably expensive today will be mass produced tomorrow on the scale of things that are commonplace luxuries now but where unimaginably expensive luxuries in the past. And that's where the jobs will be.
"But what happens when all the markets are saturated."
Then everything will be virtually free and you won't need a job anyway.

MACHINES WILL SET YOU FREE

the burger flippin robot has to be cleaned, stacked and refilled. Cause it's not going to do it itself.

See, where one job goes the way of the dinosaur, there is always another to take it's place

less people less maintenance on the restaurant. This means you must hire more often, maintenance persons to maintain your store.

Also I'm very underread in economics, do you have any reading recommendations for this topic?
>>
>>130923320

Most of these things are automated now anyway. People either insert cash at the machines or swipe a credit card. No one needs to handle any money. The most you'd need is maybe 2 people on site to make sure things run smoothly and to handle any issues a patron might have.

They're not going to launch things like automated burger machines until they operate flawlessly, not including a technical error. In which case, who's to say they don't have multiple machines in running in case one has a failure? Maybe one of the people onsite is also a trained technician that upkeeps the machines to prevent this from happening OR/AND also knows how to repair them if something goes wrong?

The concept seems novel, I will not deny that, but we at least need to be industrious lest we fall into complacency and lethargy.

In the terms of innovation and creativity it can flourish with free time. However we should have some weariness about it. Idleness does breed contempt due to reflection, eventually one would find out that maybe the system they are under may not be ideal for themselves despite having all that they do.

To understand what real happiness is, one must understand that struggle is needed to attain it lest it feels empty.

they HAVE to keep someone at front to take cash.
Otherwise, it's lost revenue
They have to keep at least one person on staff to load the burger cook.
And that same person must clean it too. (dont' forget about health code violations)
And there must be a person to clean the floors, bathrooms, windows ect. Again, health code violations.

Then there has to be someone to fix the burger machine. THink about it, the longer your soul burger cook is down, it's entirely lost revenue.
So you gotta keep that guy on staff and he's (robotics expert) is certainly not going to clean bathrooms!

So yes, there will be less jobs, but other jobs created elsewhere

or factory work to make the many parts that go into the robot. Or the factory that assembles all the parts and makes the robots

or the shipping factories taht ship the parts. Who boxes the parts. and keeps quality assurance with parts and delivery?

THere are so many off set jobs that it's hard to simply say "automation means less jobs"
Because you would be wrong.

Could the workers at these sorts of franchises form syndicates? Say a particular McDonald's employs 20 people, split between two shifts of 10, 8hrs per shift, open mon-fri, 8am-midnight. Could those workers pool their resources, take out a loan, and invest in automation and get retrained together?

Now instead of each flipping burgers for 40 hrs a week in a day or night shift of 10 people, they each work 4 hrs a week in short shifts of one, as a technician, debugging MTO terminals, restocking the burger and soda machines, cleaning floors, taking out trash, cashing out the automated register, etc. The frachise still operates on the same hours, probably moves more product, and still employs the same number of workers. Except now they earn in 4 hours what they used to make in a week. They can spend their newfound free time at school, raising kids, at another job, or in leisure.
>>
