From a legal standpoint both parties were in the wrong. The right thing Castille should have done after telling the officer he had a gun was to put his hands up and have the cop grab his credentials. The cop had no way of knowing where the gun was and assumed the worst in a situation where if you don't assume the worst you may end up dead.

Here's the thing - it sucks. It sucks if you're mistreated, it sucks if you have to go through this, it sucks if you feel threatened or scared, but it sucks less than being dead.

The cop did nothing wrong. He acted to save his own life, which is all he has a concrete obligation to do. Dozens of cops have been killed in situations just like this where the suspect seemed calm and polite, then produced a gun, and shot the unsuspecting officer.
Philando Castile earned his bullets by being a complete and utter retard. He was a drain on society, literally the amount of money wasted in the court system to handle all of his charges is staggering. He, Mike Brown, and Trayvon Martin all deserved their fates.

And having cops costs money, think how many of them you needs just to keep have a patrol car active 24/7. The more cops you need to keep a lid on things, the more revenue you need to pay for their wages, pensions, equipment, training and whatnot. It's a huge burden on the community, especially a poor one that doesn't pay a lot of taxes.
