Forever owned by Chinks. All three major rivers originate in Tibet, therefor: China cannot allow independence. Cultural independence would open a window for CIA and other foreign powers to get in. They are a lost people. The sights of the Han Chinese are firmly fixed on them and historically no one has ever been able to resist the full force of assimilation that the Han can bring to bear. Not the Mongols. Not the Manchus. Not even the Jews who resisted assimilation in all other lands. The Han are flooding into Tibet and the government is subsidizing the interbreeding of Tibetans and Han by literally paying couples to have mixed children. And the process is only accelerating.

Within the next century or two, the Tibetans will cease to exist except as a sub-grouping of Han with some remaining Tibetan cultural practices and lingual artifacts. They will never have independence peacefully or otherwise, and if the West was smart we'd watch closely and learn some important lessons about immigration.
