What is wrong with nationalisation when Singapore, a skyscraper-studded rich metropolis, has everything state-owned? Genuinely curious, seems like it can still produce wealth and efficiency.

government only works well when you have a socially cohesive high iq population; otherwise it's just a corrupt bureaucracy

Hi. I lived in Singapore for 4 years. Left last year. Singapore has a shit-ton of problems below the surface that they absolutely don't advertise (healthcare, bureaucracy, inequality, discarding of elderly, etc.) and maintains much of its structure on imported quasi-slave labour and imported talent. They are largely just the beneficiaries of Good geography ala Malaga straits/shipping. Great law enforcement, but I would NEVER want to live there permanently and genuinely pity my Sing friends I left behind. It is only good to go there, make money, then leave ASAP.

Singapore is not "Everything state owned". I do not know why you think that.

This
IQ (and thus race) is the best predictor for national wealth, with a linear regression (r^2) of 0.82
Next comes economic policy.
And then comes geography.

The state vs private dilemma is literally a red herring. It has no direct connection with the quality of anything. As always, the effectiveness depends on the kind of people who are operating the system. The human factor. Good state actors are better than bad private ones, and so on...

Also singapore government doesn't own that much. The Port itself, the utility company, and a airline. It also owns some real estate that it leases out in a Reit for revenue.
