Let's say it only costs the government $5 to pay for all its duties. They then tax the taxpayers $15. That extra $10 is theft. It also sucks when the government uses that money to oppress the very people paying the taxes. Now you know why people don't like to pay their taxes.

It clearly is theft. A contract would be if I register a vechicle for highway use I pay a fee to use the roads. When I register my kids for school I pay a fee. When I purchase a house and pay property tax I check the services I want. Dont want fire protection sure, but good luck insuring your house. That cuts out a huge chunk of budget. Now funding military, as it protects the whole country, pretty hard to opt out of that. A suggested rate voluntary system with a searchable database of what everyone paid and a PR fundraising commission would seem reasonable. Maybe we wouldnt be attacking countries as much if the feedback loop was stronger and felt the financial pressure more. A "jesuz thats expensive WTF is going on" would be beneficial to everyone
