Germany and Austria gambled on allying Eastern European states or making them their vassals.
AH competed very harshly against the Ottoman Empire to wrestle control over Eastern Europe.
Even if the ruling families were all family between themselves, several diplomatic fuckups and economic+military interests ruptured those relationships.
Germany and Britain competed in friending Russia, Germany having lost, sent their spies (Vladimir Lenin &co) to fuck up Russia as it became a great danger to its power in Europe.
Germany and Austria were allies because no one else would have their back and a history of good relationships between the Empires/Kingdom's institutional relationships on a number of key issues.

Regardless, its the British Nigger that started this campaign of destabilizing and isolating its sole contender against its influence in Continental Europe.
They opposed Germany out of pure economic and military interest.
The UK ended up killing itself to kill Germany only to become inferior to it later today.

Germany was and still is a powerhouse of Europe..

France was competing with Germany and Britain at the same time, destroying Germany meant a bigger piece of the pie for France.

In the end, the WW1 was only a result of a few hundred years of "Cold War" between Western European states.
