Yeah, in this case they can. They have great anti aircraft capabilities. Russia knows they would lose in a conventional war with the west, but they are not stupid and would make the west and their hangers on pay for it.

We did lose, in the sense that we failed to achieve our objectives, but that's because we're a fuck of a lot better at killing people than we are at winning hearts & minds and nation building.

Going by rates of casualties inflicted :: suffered, we won handily.
