Honestly, they're not so bad.

I don't think that changing the culture to be more French is realistic. However, the culture that was around just 1 generation ago, is an achievable goal.

However, the binge-drinking culture is just a symptom of a greater malaise; the complete, and deliberate, break-down of British culture. The 2 main centres of community cohesion used to be the pub and the church. Pubs are too expensive to go to more than once a week, and there has a been a persistent and effective anti-church flavour to most TV for about 30 years (next time you watch some shit on BBC, if there is a christian character they will invariably be a complete hypocrite/homophobe/etc and the audience will be invited to feel a strong dislike for them).

So now, local pubs are turning into curry houses or chinese take-aways; and the church in this country is nearly dead (and in some places, the local church has become the local mosque).

I work at the customer service hotline of a national car rental chain, deal with a lot of tourists and vacationers from various countries. Brits are absolutely the least cancerous callers I have to deal with. They're never ridiculously entitled, they take it reasonably when you tell them you can't provide them with the exact thing they want, and most importantly you can actually understand what the fuck they're saying. They'll give you distances in the meters and kilometers and they'll call the trunk 'the boot', the hood 'the bonnet', the windshield 'the windscreen', and a few times I've had them call the battery 'the accumulator', but at least they speak fucking English.
