It has an incredibly solid frame and action for an autoloader and can shoot as good as any of 'em as long as you get a good barrel and milling job on your receiver (ie vodka was in short supply at that time).

SKS is typically a pretty accurate gun. Heavy and many have a very smooth, crisp trigger. 7.62x39 is not inherently inaccurate. It loses velocity and drops much quicker than say 5.56, which makes shooting past 300 yards difficult, but that doesn't make it inaccurate. There are good choices for ammo too, like any Yugo surplus or golden tiger.
Typically loaded hotter and use boat tail bullets. Most people see a slight increase in accuracy using this ammo

If shooting crappy steel case which an AK isn't going to barf on as much as an AR. I won't shoot steel case myself as the price difference isn't that great with recent price drops. I was able to get green tip for .30 here recently as there is to much of it laying around.

You're probably right, I don't own an SKS but I do have an AR I slapped together. The BUIS was surprisingly hitting the black at 50 meters for me, beyond that I had to zero it and fuck with the front sight post to get it just right. I have a Nugget that has a ever-so-slight bend on the front sight post but I can still hit a target at 100m and 150m.

it is one of the most sturdy autoloaders ever, the tilting bolt design is bombproof and you can easily turbocharge 7.62x39 meant for an SKS much like you could for a good solid bolt gun

I have two sino soviet and a 1981 based on serial production yugo. My sino soviets were 200 each with c&r and were luck of the draw on Chinese SKS shipments from two vendors. My yugo was 320. I love all 3. They feed silver bear and brown bear all day. I can reload but prefer to reload for my M1A and 45-70.

I would urge everyone not to shit on SKS and Mosins as someone who owns multiples of each as well as your typical ak, ak shotgun and ar platforms. I am waiting to snag a cheap garand from cmp when the Italians are shipped in. That said out of all my rifles and pistols my milsurp are not only cheapest and most fun to shoot but are accurate af in my hands. If you do your part the old war horses will do theirs. I've seen few complaints with AK owners and steel case. I myself keep weapons in the same caliber so I don't have to buy ammo for every different one. This is the only reason I don't have a .40 as I like the round but I own 9's and .38 so stocking another caliber makes little sense.

Yes. Mosins are $300 most places now, and the cheap abundant surplus ammo is all dried up. If you want one because you want a mosin, go for it. If you want a decent rifle to shoot for the joy you shooting, look elsewhere. AR15s can be had for $400 or a little bit more on Palmetto State Armory. If you want a bolt action rifle, look into the savage axis series.
