it's just a loose collection of organic lines with a vague composition, it's alright but it's no fine art. I make the distinction because fine art is the remarkable stuff. I draw and what I make is technically art but that doesn't make it remarkable. At least it's not anti-art though.

that differs per piece, >>130228784 for example is in the USA. generally these museums are very very popular and no sane person would want to close them down or god forbid do something to the art pieces. Even soulless chinese tourists tend to respect them deeply. No matter how deep the anti-art propaganda digs its roots, it cant make people ignore beauty and masteries when they see them.

>>130229130
it can be both. Art is subjective and can have meaning to you even if the artist didnt intend for it. Sometimes its just pretty.

Surely this is still classed as modern art because it was made with conservatives and American politics in mind, and the artist has a specific vision for what the image represents, rather than contemporary art, where the piece is created without a specific told purpose with the ideal of being pure form and aestheticism up to total interpretation by the viewer.

I'm a big Beksinski fan and he's modern, but I'm pretty singular when it comes to what art(ist) I like -- and I do like that none of his works have meaning or titles.

That being said, I dislike modernist "political" art that is merely mashing images together and THEN adding meaning. I generally dislike the politicization of artistic mediums because they tend to be up their own ass.

>>
For fucks sake, I should just make a copypasta at this point.
Art is a skill. One can be educated or self taught but it requires structure. Over time it can adapt new practices (some good, some bad) with each generation. It is the requirement of the community as a whole to identify good and poor practices and reformat into efficiency in response.
Let's take martial arts, it is an art (skill) that has structure and can either be taught by an instructor or self taught. The key is experience, it doesn't matter how fluid your punches are if your guard is weak against a straight hook.
Part two is the main goal (or should be the main goal) of art like painting, music, dance, etc and it is to envoke emotion. Good art can stand by itself with no external explanation and male you feel something. Bad art will need the "artist" to explain the symbolism and if a piece all together doesn't then it is not art. It fails in it's single job and is forgettable. Now the quality of the peice can and should be taken into account. Take this Van Gogh for example, it is terrible on a technical level. Proportions are off, detail is lacking, there is no shading to speak of despite there being a source of light in the back but what does it make you "feel"? I see agony, despair, pain, and misery. I can relate to the image and it hits home for "me". For someone else maybe not so much but even so they can see and image what the person must be going through.

The art in OP's pic is just completely graceless. There's nothing aesthetic about those lines. Even for 'abstract' art, it's fucking awful. It's just... it's fucking terrible.

I've seen one line of paint do so much more. Why can't people see why their work is bad, and then fix it?
>>
>>130235323
I agree with everything you said, and would like to to it to you, what do think about "memes" being considered art 2-300 (at the least) years from now? Albeit unintended, they fit into the explanation you posted. I know using words in a work of art is fucking retarded so please avoid pointing that out. Just take the perspective of 2-300 years from now and the gestalt surrounding their creation.

Now, lets talk about emotion. There are countless peices of art that cam envoke an emotion but just because they can get away with it doesn't mean it's good. Let's take the example of the naked Trump statue from a few months ago. It is visibly disgusting, it's repulsive to look at and you can be sure that the artist intended to accomplish this. Well good for him, he reached his goal (which was more likely controversy than promoting the arts). In my opinion it's bad art. It may have been detailed and can provoke emotion but it's one dimensional, there is absolutely no subtlety. Now let's take something a little different but achives similar goals. Here is a peice by H.R Geiger, it is detailed, not subtle in the least and prokes emotion but what emotions would it be? Sexual is obvious and disgust as well and that creates a conflict. Your brain isn't meant to take absorb two conflicting emotions in a single image, you either sway to one side or the other. You either become aroused to some degree by the sight of sexualized absurdity or become so repulsed by the corruption of the human form that it will leave them afflicted at the sight of what once was delightful (much like our artist).
This is what makes art worth wild, creating a truly unique and thought provoking peice without having to utter a word.

Art is a means of communicating without you being there in a "beautiful" way. There medium was canvases, stones, words etc. but you forgot that the the internet is a brand new medium. They left paintings hanging on the wall to get across what they were trying to say. You attached an image trying to gain deeper meaning in what you're saying, it's roughly the same thing. "Memes" in the context of the internet are an interesting concept. They rely heavily on the community that views them constantly. As we've seen in the last election to now a rise in memetic "art".
Let's go back a few years, one of the most popular memes of the time was the God Hand comic, not because the original was a masterpiece but because it was open to recreation, other people would try their hand and eventually you would see one of a game you've played and get a kick out of it. Then, on the opposite side of the spectrum, are the rage/troll comics. There was no attempt at originality and were almost exclusively made by people outside of the community that started them and it showed.
You can see a similar trend today. With the passing U.S. election and the miasma which is the political world we have seen a (dare I say) renaissance of memes. Some that were absolutely hilarious in my opinion because despite how absurd they may be they still came off frighteningly accurate. Then you had the ones from outside the community (community in terms of those who are a part of the internet sub-culture, not just /pol/) and it was strikingly obvious that they were "foreign". As such the community rejected them whenever they popped up. In recent weeks the "Orc posting" seemed to pop up out of no where and though they were humorous in that accurate sort of way, like I mentioned before, they were still rejected by /pol/ because they felt manufactured. There is an entire realm to this sub-culture in term of art appreciation that could be looked into. A marketing analysis would, if not already, study this place extensively to see what this place would be susceptible to but like I've mentioned would be crestfallen to find that no matter how much research and money you pump into marketing it would ultimately be rejected because it is foreign.

marketing, so the objective isn't "pure" and would come off that way, and honestly a great defense to shit. Take the Pepe fiasco into consideration... it yielded the uptick in newfags because they didn't understand the origin.

I honestly think when this "period" is studied in the future they're going to look at memes as the epitome when it comes to an archeological stance. I mean, nothing else is getting it right.

>I honestly think when this "period" is studied in the future they're going to look at memes as the epitome when it comes to an archeological stance
Unlikely, memes have become "mainstream" and their origins will surely be lost to time. Pepe will be seen as an unfortunate victim of the political climate, no mention of his evolution over time from "Feels good man" < "Feels bad man" < Depression < Smug < and current. The occult origins of KeK will be forgotten to all but his "followers", even now the threads are scant few unless it's tied to the ridiculous Nation of KeK.
I feel like I should start writing this down. A study of this corner of the internet. You all may not realize it but you have achived the perfect "multi-cultural". The reason why is the greatest of ironies, you all hate one another and can speak your opinion with absolute immunity. You all allow diversity of thought and weak views eventually die out, not because they are forced into silence by the hand of a governing body but because the weaker argument doesn't gain support, no one agrees with their views and as such no one else will post threads about it.
Mull on that for a bit.

Take those feelings. Take that jealousy, resentment, awe, and appreciation and use it to motivate yourself to get better. Experience is the only way you will ever get better. I know it's the exact same thing you will hear from any artist but here is the real secret. Learn to visualise your goal, imagine it in your mind, sketch it everywhere, take your medium and see how it reacts (mixing paint/molding clay/chipping stone) and understand how it "works". Then compartmentalize your peice and work layer by layer. Don't try to sculpt an entire person off the bat, start with a finger. A finger becomes a hand, a hand becomes and arm, so on and so forth.

Memes are the new animals inhabiting the terrain we call the mind, and the mind, as we once knew it, has breached its limits within the new domain of speech (Internet). The energy is readily available, for interfacing. A kind of hyper natural selection occurs where these ideas and representations compete for dominance. The image aspect of it has a kind of immediate quality to it, the information is immediately recognizable in subtle ways, thus humorous - having a kind of tacit wit about it.

Its an interesting topic for sure. What's even more interesting is the dynamic that exists between the meme Smith, and those who wield and re-interpret them. There's a kind of sword in the stone thing going on. Something something archetypal but not quite, a bit different.

Remember Google and the other Alphabet agencies are hoarding a lot of this shit in their server warehouses. Of course not all will be saved, but the major news outlets archive their stuff, it'll cause the future investigators to go snooping if not they'll surely stumble upon trails some other way. The internet and especially the proliferation of the internet is a monotonic marker of the current time.

>You all allow diversity of thought and weak views eventually die out, not because they are forced into silence by the hand of a governing body but because the weaker argument doesn't gain support, no one agrees with their views and as such no one else will post threads about it.
simply not true.
Weaker views die out because they are lack merit, sometimes to the point of idiocy. You can post anything you want, as long as you can fend off the attackers... you may not convert the attackers, but people reading the thread may see it your way, and of course it's a bit leaning.
>ask town how much bull weights
>town has a bunch of stupid answers
>average out these answers and they are within 2 lbs. of the bull's actual weight

If you take an accuracy by volume perspective, the fact that we can "speak your opinions with absolute immunity", you'd see why weaker views don't catch any traction... and why Trump won.

If every aspiring artist could do that, then the arts wouldn't be in the state they are. It's a lot easier to reject standards than to meet them, though. Hell, you don't have to practice at all. All you need to do is deride technical mastery and emphasize ~*uniqueness*~. After all, art is all about the artist, not the subject they represent or the medium itself. Act like your art looks like shit because you're enlightened, not because you're a lazy fuckup with no appreciable skill in the one field you pretend to be passionate about. Some money launderer will probably buy your Communism in Crayola for five million fucking dollars.

>tfw cartoonist and working on comics/graphic novels
I don't even tell people i do anything related to art
I don't want to even be remotely lumped into a group with people

I distinctly remember my first few days of art classes at college (I've been doing art since i was a kid i just went because i thought it's what was expected of me)
And I had to buy all this traditional canvas shit, and paints, and charcoal and all these really kikey money holes for shit I had zero interest in
I signed up for working with tablets and shit, and the entire time was spent on canvas
ANYWAYS
Every single fucking girl, and I mean every single one drew the exact same type of art you would expect
Bright vibrant colors and black holes in the middle to express their soul
And this one really faggy kid was drawing lines and the girls were going apeshit over it
I expected the teacher to talk about form, and structure, or even color theory but this entire class was just about being givin a subject to draw about and then just doing whatever you wanted because art is subjective

MY point of that long blog post is that going to school for art, and especially for an art specific school is so masturbatory that the only thing worth going there for is the connections
But with online portfolio's you don't even need that

Idk i'm kinda jaded about the pretentiousness of the art community when really they have nothing to convey that hasn't been an art students freshman year "magnum opus" about how putting a lily up your ass and taking a picture like you're a vase the express the virility of the animal human who despite being evolved is just an ape

Pretty much mirrors my own experience at art school.
>they say to bring some oil paints and brushes for the next lesson
>I buy some oil paints and brushes
>next day
>they say they aren't good enough and I should buy the ones from the school shop
>go to the school shop
>$30 a tube
>$30 per brush

Nah get fucked. What's the point of buying the most expensive supplies when they're just making you do basic colour theory and tone?

Damn this hits me. I like sketching it's a hobby of mine but I admit I'm guilty of being a lazy ass who is too lazy to put in the same amount of work great painters put into theirs. That's why most of my sketches look like a 6-7/10 sketch even though I know i can make it a 8-9 at best.

there are alot of anonymous artists here on the political art and discussion forum.

But you are so accustomed to memes that you cannot see them as the avant garde art that they are. You're a fish who cannot see the waters.

First Art was descriptive (cave drawings, ancient wall paintings). Then it became self-explanatory (classical) then interpretive (cubism, modernism etc.) and now it's what ever shit you can literally take on the canvas and requires a small novel to be explained to the viewer (post-modernism).

a picture is worth a thousand words but my bullshit requires a thousand words so I can get idiots to fund my next bullshit project and my comfy petite-bourgeois life-style.

Man, sculpture is just great.
Paintings can be expressive, and surreal, but for the true, basicness of art; the celebration of the human form, nothing can beat it.
These sculptures are so lovely and believable that when you see them in person it's a disappointment that they don't walk around.
They were talked about in script when they were made, and they're being discussed through fiber optic cables now. And we'll still be talking about them when we're communicating between galaxies. They are so beautiful that they have become immortal.
