Norway spends 311 000 000 000 NOK on healthcare through taxes per year.
That equals to $36 588 235 000 roughly
Norway has 5 000 000 citizens
The US has 321 000 000 citizens.
That's 64 as many people as Norway.
That means, if the US should use the same amount of money on healthcare per citizen as Norway, it would be a staggering $2 341 647 040 000 per year!

To put that into perspective:
The US currently spends $611 000 000 000 on it's defense budget, making it the biggest in the world.
You would need almost four defense budgets to get universal healthcare.

Can some socialist please explain how it would be even remotely possible to get universal healthcare in the US, without raising the taxes almost 4 times as high as they already are, and bankrupting most families?

>inb4: lol the 1% and big companies will pay more

Big companies would not be able to pay taxes this massive, and still create good jobs and income, without raising the prices ridiculously high. And believe it or not, the one percent wouldn't be able to fund this system either, as, even though they have a lot of money, they don't have enough to keep a system like this sustainable.

Healthcare does not work. The state does not work. Governments do not work.

How much money is lost due to people being out of work because of illness/injuries they can't afford to treat?

Holy shit, I just did the same calculations with Canada (the country libtards here love to talk about because muh free healthcare) and if we spent the same ammount per citizen as Canada it would have to be $2,075,898,000,000. Anyone who unironically is calling for universal healthcare is out of their minds.

You do understand that government is literally the standard model for human civilisation right? Just because it is not perfect does not mean it would be better to have no government at all.

We spend more per citizen on healthcare than Canada at the government level, before you even add in the private sector.

I hope you were cleverly inviting this correction rather than being a retard.

False equivalent. Norway is a high-cost country. Especially services cost a lot, regardless of what kind. An auto mechanic charges over 1000 NOK per hour, that's something like 800 USD. Plus parts. And add 25% VAT to that. Nurses and health workers don't work for much less than 200 NOK per hour, plus extra for evening, weekend, and night shifts.

TL;DR Everything cost a lot of money in Norway. But unless you're a welfare recipient or didn't get any kind of useful education, you can afford to live pretty well. Although going DINK is the best lifestyle.

Here's a thought.

>take that number, and double it the first 4 years.
>get EVERYONE into a clinic and have them get checked out. (The first 4 years of double budget should make things run semi smoothly)
>get data and diagnose everyone through standard tests
>treat those who really need it, and find out who is just in need of a change in lifestyle.
>get those who just need to exercise doing that
>get those who need other treatments done as well.

Now comes the fun part
>abandon universal health care
>put 1/4th of said budget into mandatory after school programs that promote fitness and good eating habits.

In 20 years of reinforcing good lifestyle choices, it will stick with them. And even if it doesn't, you are at least training these kids to the point where they are ready for another world war.

>"Don't worry if we nationalize this service and increase who can use it by 40% and also create a gigantic bureaucracy to administer it the cost will go down!"

>>130089641
California is currently trying to pass a bill to implement Single Payer Healthcare. They estimate that by nationalizing the entire system they'll be able to reduce costs by a few billion dollars overall.

The problem of course being that nationalizing it would cost 400 billion dollars a year. The current California state budget, TOTAL, was about half of that in 2015.

So we need to triple our state's total tax revenue to pay for this. We already have some of the highest state taxes in the union.

Anyone want to explain to me how this is possible? California is often touted as the biggest economy in America, and leftists just loooooooove to talk about how great the California economy is, but I've never heard anyone make the case for this. Also there is zero accommodation for an increase in medical service use as a result of its being made universal and including illegal aliens.
>>
>>130095469
That's true.
Maybe that's why current healthcare is so expensive. You got all those people who should have been doing the right thing all along, not, and now the supply and demand is inflated because shit people want to be alive.

Not efficient enough, as you can see in the California example above.

How does increasing bureaucracy and increasing use lower prices. Explain it. Do not link to videos of pundits talking about it, explain it mechanically or I will assume (correctly) that you don't actually understand the subject at all.

Nope. Explain how an increase in the size of government, complete with government employees, and an increase in use by a huge number of people in the millions, reduces prices.

It's increasingly clear that you don't know what you're talking about at all. You've just listened to people telling you what you want to hear, and you can't even regurgitate it, you just link to it.

Explain it to me.

>"Don't worry if we nationalize this service and increase who can use it by 40% and also create a gigantic bureaucracy to administer it the cost will go down!"
there are already multiple gigantic bureaucracies administering it interconnected with eachother.

each unit of healthcare sold goes through 3 bureaucracies at the moment. the hospital is an individual bureaucracy, which bills a separate insurance bureaucracy, both of which answer to separate government bureaucracies (if not multiple ones).

single payer would actually be streamlining the current system.

where as "hurp durp just get rid of everything free market!" is simply not going to happen as a pragmatic political fact.
you can argue that an unrestricted system would be cheaper and more efficient, but it's a pipe dream.

the U.S. currently has an incredibly unfree market and as much as it can avoids "socialist" medical care, which results in the worst outcome of all possible mixed economic systems.

all the expensive patients end up on government assistance because muh feels already. all the healthy patients pay out of pocket for their own healthcare and pay for the government healthcare of all the needy and old, too.

then we put our soldiers on yet another entirely separate bureaucracy. just because.

we already incur the bureaucratic fluff and expenses of socialized medicine; and at the same time have a horribly inefficient private system we must also deal with.

socialized medicine is far from perfect, but just copy/pasting the australian system would be cheaper and more efficient.

it of course, has to be paired with dealing with fucking spics and niggers to some extent -- whether gettign rid of or somehow actually training them -- because we're more like brazil than we are australia; but that's an equally impossible political battle.
