Almost all of the people who were uninsured before Obamacare were healthy 20-30 years olds who couldn't or just didn't want to spend the money on it.
So they rammed through this great plan to just force them to buy it.
Actual poor people already had Medicaid and Medicare. This shit is just a massive tax on the actually working poor, and what you get for it is crappy insurance with doctors you don't want and super high deductibles (so it's useless unless you have a really major issue) and all for the same price good insurance used to be.
The only people defending Obamacare are the politicians, celebrities and other millionaires and 20 year olds still on their parents insurance.
AKA people who have nothing to do with it.
The folks making just over the amount where the government subsidizes any of it who are already struggling, suddenly have a large extra financial burden, because either the insurance they've had went up to unaffordable levels because of it or they just couldn't afford insurance for the whole family in the first place but now they have the government forcing them to buy what they couldn't afford or be fined thousands each year and get nothing in return.
The people who work too much to qualify for Medicaid but can't afford insurance are the exact people this has hurt instead of helped, and they went out and voted.
No amount of government employees with great insurance, millionaires and stupid college kids telling them how great it is will change their reality.

Oh I know, I seem to remember being 20 in 2006 and this not being an issue at all in any sense, mostly because good healthcare was pennies on the dollar compared to now. I was working for $10/hr then for my dad's company and my health insurance was a forgettable deduction and it covered everything under the sun. Now I make much more, it takes a much bigger proportion out of my check, and the quality is quite a bit worse. Its fucking insane how much the narrative changes in a decade.
