The reason the western powers didn't declare war on the Soviet Union after their invasion of Poland is twofold:
First of all, the German aggression in Poland was far, far from unprecedented. after the anschluss of austria, annexation of the Sudetenland, and of Czechoslovakia, the western powers made it utterly clear that any further action and they would break their strategy of appeasement. The Soviet Union had no such warnings to them. They had been much less territoriality aggressive to this point.

The second reason is pragmatic. Is it easier to fight against one superpower, or two superpowers, forcing your enemies to align with each other against you? Gee, I fucking wonder. Take out one threat at a time. This is fucking high school level historical analysis, it's contextualization. Fuck, I thought our schools were bad, at least I learned how to do that.

Fair enough, although in some places like Haiti they were an overwhelmingly outnumbered minority and that wasn't very feasible without a costly war. Hitler had no intentions of invading Britain. After defeating France, he turned his attention to the USSR, he had no further plans upon either Britain or her Empire. He made several offers of peace to Churchill, but they were all rebuffed. If we had signed an armistice with Germany, we would have been invaded by neither Germans nor Muslims.
