I asked a girl why is it that parents in the US don't pay

This is a red board which means that it's strictly for adults (Not Safe For Work content only). If you see any illegal content, please report it.

>>
her education didnt pay off.

college education has outpaced inflation by about 3%, or 6.5-7% annually.
>>
>>129658857
kek, fucking hippies
>>
>>129658857

Wages were driven down by women joining the workforce and now it's basically impossible for a single-earner income to put kids through college, and for many, not even two-earner incomes can manage it.

It works out tho cuz modern college is basically a liberal indoctrination camp
>>
>>129658857

Tuition in the US can be the price of a house and you rarely get return on investment (except in STEM fields or finance). There's so much your parents can do.
>>
My parents didn't pay for my education because why would they? A full grown adult can find their own way through life and if you can't manage that then maybe you aren't mature enough for college in the first place.
>>
>>129658857
Good thing there is a way to get free education: the military. Except I forget that many dont want to risk themselves, they just want the rewards.

What a shame.
>>
>>129658857
problem simply is adolescents are not taught basic economic theory like 'return on investment'
by the time they get to the age where they should go to college they just think of it as high school 2.0
a very small percentage realize it is actually them choosing the door that leads to the rest of their lives.
>>
Tell her you'll say what you want and if she doesn't like it she can sit on your fat cock.
>>
She is a keeper. Always go for girls with strong in group preferences.
>>
>>129659540
Actually, the sad truth is that many college students don't go that route because they can't pass the IQ test to get into the military.
>>
>>129659525
College has nothing to do with maturity. College is a place for networking. Maturity is irrelevant when networking.
>>
>>129659242
>implying its normal to go to ASU and pay 200,000 to get a masters in transborder studies

If you go to community college with Fafsa and some grants you can get a associates like its nothing. You can usually do other programs to get a bachelors through a community college for 1/3 the price of a actual university.

What happened was they where giving student loans out to everybody for everything. Every kid went to a high priced party college and used students loans a useless degree and living on campus. They owe 100k now and they blame successful people older than them. A lot of student loan places started to refuse to give kids loans without a cosigner.

I am 24, there is a bunch of 26-34 year olds with tons of debt working at a burger king with a degree in the arts. Luckily i didn't go straight to college on my way out.

>>129658857

Tuition in the US can cost as much as a house in certain cases; meanwhile college in Mexico costs about 15 tamales a year. (25 tamales for a higher class university)

There's naturally a difference between the financial situations.

Student loans exist for a reason; for the worthless idiots that can't get a scholarship or don't have the balls to join the military, they can just go into debt for a few decades (not as bad as it sounds so long as they are fiscally responsible, which, surprise surprise, teenagers are not.)

It's pretty hard to fail the asvab stat wise. Army/Marines will try to waiver you in with a failing score. I knew people who got 30s and got in, in Supply.

A lot of young americans are fat, lazy, and incapable of basic human function so they work for minimum wage, become neet, or if they are lucky mom and dad send them off to a 4 year school to fail out and then become neet.

I blame social media.
>>

don't military recruiters straight up deceive people with high asvab scores into signing up for high risk jobs?

No it can't. Stop going to a private college if you can't afford it, you retard. State universities cost 10k a year to attend. There's no reason you should rack up huge debts.
>>
>>129659869
I'm also 24. I graduated HS a semester early, I entered the workforce straight out of HS while my parents let my GF & stay at their house until I was 20-21 while we saved money for a house. We moved into my grandparents house after we moved out of my parents to continue to save money while my GF was pregnant and gave birth to our first child. My retired grandparents helped my GF to take care of my child while I was at work. Now 24 and will be buying a house and having our wedding at the end of the year. Yeah, we were only able to do this because of my parents and grandparents but still, college was worthless for us.
>>
>>129660270
what kind of house are you living in, anon?
is it your parents?
cause if you can afford a 60k+ house while you're college age then that's pretty fucking impressive

not everyone has the ability to live off daddy and mommy while trying to get a degree; plenty of people have to fend for themselves whilst also trying to get an education.

for a large portion of americans; the choice between taking out a loan for an education or taking out a loan for a cheap house is a very real decision they have to make.
>>
>>129660530
Kek, I'm the wrong person to fuck with on this, anon. I worked full time to pay my living expenses while in college and graduated with 14k in debt, which I paid off in 2 years. You lazy, entitled cunts will never make it in the real world.

Racking up 60k in debt because you feel entitled to the (((college experience))) is ridiculous. Get a job that at least pays for your food and housing. You idiots pay 8k a year to rent out a fucking room you're only in for 8 months.
>>
>>129660491
College isn't even necessary, its good for some and pointless for others. If you are management material or want to start a business you don't need college. What do you do for a living?

I joined the Marines after being a NEET faggot for 1-2 years and i'm out now going to school for Criminal Justice. I want to go into DHS or FBI, and might get my law degree later on if i hate working for the government.

Getting your JD will help with career advancement in both DHS and FBI, if that's the route you want to go. The market is flooded with attorneys right now, keep that in mind if you have to take out significant loans to get your JD.

I never said that I had taken out a student loan. nor did I say they were a good thing.

The country's education system is fucked.

The business is really stricked, we have a non tolerance policy when it comes to absences and they provide all of our tools. That part is absolute shit but the pay is great and I work with a lot of cool people around my age. They also hired with no training necessary.
>>
>Grown exponentially

Why do beaners always use the word "exponentially"? Do they really know what this word means? Surely if she means that the tuition fee has grown exponentially due to the fact of inflation, then everything has grown exponentially, which defeats the whole point of claiming tuition costs growing exponentially. God damn beaner nigges, do they even logic.
>>
>>129658857
Many parents in the US do pay for tuition, it depends on their ability to pay. Or if they're kikes to take advantage of the student loan program.
>>
>>129661467
The problem is entitled cunts who think the government owes them a subsidized loan so they can study some irrelevant, unmarketable degree. Correlate interest rate subsidies to majors that are in demand and let the rest of the idiots pay market rates for their loans.
>>
>>129661215

CJ isn't awful, but you'd be better off studying accounting, anything math, or CS. Police departments get tons of CJ majors, but they really need accountants, computer experts, and mathematicians.
>>
Vietnam and student loans screwed it up. People used to only go to college if they needed to for a specific profession, or if they were exceptional academically. Then Vietnam happened and college students were exempted from the draft so everyone went to college. College used to guarantee a good job, but over time since everyone went standards were lowered, and college or some kind of post high school education became necessary for almost any job. Outsourcing, computers, and mechanization didn't help because unskilled labor jobs disappeared. Universities raised prices because of the increased demand, and looser student loan regulations meant more money was available, so the market didn't naturally regulate tuition inflation. Now we're here, over and undereducated simultaneously, and even those of us who can get moderately good jobs are so buried in student debt that we don't even zero until our mid 30's. And grad school is the new college, so for some people it's even later.
>>
>>129661532
I was gonna look into getting a city job working with radio towers before my decision for college. You can make 25 an fucking with towers.

There is some amazing no training needed jobs. You can also work in a copper mine and make 80k a year because its dangerous.
>>
>>129661532
a wear house or a warehouse?
>>
On the one hand, govt. involvement with college loans is driving the prices of tuition up; on the other, fewer people should be going to college because it's oversaturated the market with degrees, thus, devaluing the degrees.

So, high college tuition is a good means of pricing out people, but I think the govt. should get out of subsidizing college.

US is a liberal shithole

And baby boomers are the most self-important and self-serving shitcunts to have ever existed. You only had to sleepwalk through life to be basically handed valuable opportunities that they were a given and they are under the delusion that they all worked hard to get to where they are.

And instead of enriching and strengthening the next generation to establish strong families, they choose to deracinate their own children and kick them out and sell them off to be a cog of zog, waste more resources, consume more, pay some Jew's rent, etc.

Rather than setting up their family, they choose to instead waste all of their wealth on hedonistic end of life holidays and recreation. They aren't even aware that the narrow historical window of opportunity that they used to enrich themselves early in their life had closed decades ago. Boomers continue enriching themselves however by selling this land of opportunity meme to the third world and exploiting the desperation of these people and letting their children have to deal with radical diversity and demographic changes when they are forced to move out somewhere they can afford.

Boomers are literally the worst.
>>
>>129658857
ASIA FOR THE ASIANS, AFRICA FOR THE AFRICANS, WHITE COUNTRIES FOR EVERYBODY!

Everybody says there is this RACE problem. Everybody says this RACE problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY white country and ONLY into white countries.

The Netherlands and Belgium are just as crowded as Japan or Taiwan, but nobody says Japan or Taiwan will solve this RACE problem by bringing in millions of third worlders and quote assimilating unquote with them.

Everybody says the final solution to this RACE problem is for EVERY white country and ONLY white countries to “assimilate,” i.e., intermarry, with all those non-whites.

What if I said there was this RACE problem and this RACE problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into EVERY black country and ONLY into black countries?

How long would it take anyone to realize I’m not talking about a RACE problem. I am talking about the final solution to the BLACK problem?

And how long would it take any sane black man to notice this and what kind of psycho black man wouldn’t object to this?

But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against my race, the white race, Liberals and respectable conservatives agree that I am a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionjews.

They say they are anti-racist. What they are is anti-white.

Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white.

Old school army here. I've went into IT after getting banged up pretty bad years ago. IT manager now, pretty big global team. Do I love it? No. Do I even like it? Rarely. But, a good IT career is a very good means to an end. It allowed me to pursue a few different fields and hobbies. It allowed me to raise a pretty big family. It allows me to work from home 24/7 now. I'm not even a coder, just a pretty skilled UNIX\Linux administrator with management skills I picked up while in service.

So, and this is just my advice, don't throw away what is a great foot in the door of an industry you can find work in anywhere (including from your home). Use it as a means to an end and figure out how to tolerate it.

Children of immigrants do tend to have a rough time if they want further generations to be successful.

The generational cycle of immigration, in the best case scenario, has 1st generation immigrants providing a meager living, and 2nd generation immigrants working through college. Only at a 3rd generation can parents really afford to pay for things like owning and nice house or paying for college.

This girl's father probably broke his back in the fields just to give her the opportunity to live here, which is not something he deserves to be looked down on for.
>>
Between a 529 plan and scholarship it's doable.

A counter-argument is that kids appreciate college only if they pay for it, although if they do well in high school they obviously appreciate something. Not to mention the public universities in European socialist countries where you actually have to major in something real, at least you had to in the past.

I don't think so. I'm very happy with my Berkeley degree. It is not an onerous burden to pay for it, assuming you have a two-parent family who can budget properly.

You also have to be really poor to qualify for the "free" tuition. Obviously, anyone who saves money for 18 years will not qualify for such a "free" tuition.

That was my case, and I still have a close relationship with them, too.

I don't understand the cultural disease of college kids going into massive debt with worthless degrees. And having dysfunctional relationships with their families. Seriously though, I don't know why everyone I know who goes there doesn't declare in EECS. It's literally impossible to not get a six figure job in SV if you graduate there in EECS, even with a 2.0 GPA and smelling like farts all day.

Tier 1 recruiting in SV is Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, and CMU. Still worth it IMO, since you can make like 600k starting post graduation just from having set foot at any one of those places for a CS degree.

You can earn back whatever amount of money you spent on tuition at any one of those places in a year or two. Also, Stanford and MIT have infinite amounts of need based financial aid so its not like you'd have to spend much in the first place.

MIT is all about the recruiting - if you want the best jobs you go there. Harvard and Berkeley are for hard science, or law, and being recruited by the top law firms. It's also about studying the cutting edge with experts and the top people in the field.

Sure, state school is great, I went to one, but my degree and field didn't require a top school, and I paid my own way working.

I dated a girl, who graduated from Yale, in a non-science/business degree. Nobody recruited her, it was a waste of a free ride (she was black). She ended up taking entry level jobs where her Yale degree was equal to a 4 year degree from the worst state school.
>>

>>
>>129667161
Its been much more than that. While women being expected to work has increased the labor market and the competition of wages, which has absorbed that, what has really happened is that the poor have been slowly paying the government more. They are promised security and independence, but they only end up paying twice what they did and they give up more of their freedom. Try getting a car loan from a shop that carries their own loans. 5k car sold for 10k and on top of that they charge 20% interest and repo your car if you have a 1 day lapse in insurance. Oh and they own the repo truck too so they make their own rates. Thats a private bank on a small scale, imagine the implications if developed for a massive marketplace.
>>
>>129668504

Pfft. I think everyone can handle EECS, because I don't count brainlets as human beings.

But seriously, I'm sure even a retard can get through the program with a good GPA, provided they do the absolute minimum to get through.

The reason why you hear people in EECS programs complain about the difficulty so often is because EECS people by their very nature go out of their way to load their schedule with tons of EE and CS classes, of which there are way too many to choose from. Hence they load up on all of them and complain when they get crushed.

If they weren't like that, they'd have chosen either EE or CS instead, not both.

Kids get hired for 600K a year working on algorithms for Wall Street. I know a girl who graduated in international banking who's first job offer was $750k a year, graduating from a in Ivy League school. That was 15 years ago, she's easily in the 7-8 figure range now - looking at the fucking house she lives in, I'd bet around 5 mill a year, not counting bonuses. Granted, she works 18 hours a day, and is traveling nonstop, but she's got a Bentley and a big ass house. And a boy toy husband who dabbles in VC in Silicon Valley.

You guys have no clue what the world is like. You think in terms of what you know, which is IT, or from TV. The top 10 percent of the top ten percent in grads are paid a fuck ton of money on their first job, because they showed massive skill in college, and they got recruited by the top.

Absolutely. Chico state has been known as a party school since the 80's, and Santa Cruz...well, that's self explanitory.

I went to Long Beach for a specific program. Was a good school, lots of strong departments. My brother and sister when to SF State, same thing - some departments are really good, others, so so.

The best part of the system is how many campuses there are, so they can offer so many programs. Other states don't have it nearly as good.

Absent some extenuating circumstance like being black or there being a huge shortage of IT workers in your area going from zero to employable in 3 months is indeed demonstrative of an uncommonly strong work ethic
>>
>>129678293
At least in terms of resume building. Programming is indeed not actually that hard at the end of the day

>You can get a better than shit-tier job with a degree and the skills such as arriving to class on time, writing papers within the perimeters and turning them in by the deadline, reading critically, etc.

implying STEM doesn't require you to arrive to class on time

I am not even talking about $50k out of school, can't even get a job period. Btw, you can get $50k out of school, but it will probably be in an expensive state like NY, where that $50k is worthless in PPP. And according to other anon you can easily get a $600k job just have to be smart and work hard. kek

I don't think having any particular skills will get you a job unless you know someone who can employ you or you fill in the diversity quotas.

I'm telling my kids not to go to university. If they need a degree, shop for the cheapest. Information is basically free now, so why not get the degree as cheap as possible, and then self-teach any inadequacies? fuck an ivy league or high end college unless its a scholarship.
Better off getting a couple or more specialized associate degrees throughout your life for your career changes. You'll make more, have much much less debt, and be happier, feel successful with your simpler goals. The reason why a lot of parent don't pay for their kids colleges is that they are adults by the time they are in college. One of the first things they do as adults is choose a path of success or failure, and being responsible for their future and their own education teaches this clearly. You win... or lose.
Not everyone is a winner. And those who are winners, needs the losers to be able to be winners. How the universe works, son...

You pay for the prestige mate, if yiure kid is smart enough to get into columbia or some other college, are you really gonma force them to go to a community college For 4 years. They could be smart as fuck but emloyers wont give a shit because theyll just assume theyre a retsrd who wasnt smart enough to hack it in a big uni. At the very least, if yiu live in cali, have your kid go to cc for 2 years then transfer to a good state school for stem.

You need a lot of capital (we're talking five or six figures) and even then your chances of succeeding are up there with becoming a professional poker player.

Find yourself a trade, make bank and invest using that. Not trading - investing. You'll come out further ahead.

Collage tuition has raised far faster than inflation. Most parents never expected that much cost growth, so collage funds often fall short. However part of the problem is on society for destroying good jobs and refusing to give kids a reality check. So much of the student debt problem could have been prevented by parents or teachers telling the kid that their gender studies or equally useless program is a waste of time and money.

Not exactly. You are restricted by the Pattern Day Trader rule until your portfolio exceeds $25,000. It limits you to 3 day trades per week as long as you are under that amount. There is no legal minimum to trade, but brokers do have varying minimums that you can open an account with.

Yeah. You're right. They choose their degrees based on whether they can or cannot handle EECS. You brainlet.

Good parents do, shitty parents either just kick their kids out at 18, or tell them to suck jew dick (take loans).

If you can't pay for your kids' education, you should at least encourage them to do a military hitch. Anything besides taking on burdensome debt.

A good in state school is about 25000 a year. That isn't really that much, especially considering if you choose a major worth a shit you will graduate with a 60k a year offer minimum.

By the time your kids are going off to college parents really should have a gross house hold income of at least 100k a year.
