New Classical Western Art thread.
Old thread: >>129483673
Painting, photography, and sculpture is fine, as long as it's not (((modernist))). Descriptions and discussion are welcome.
Photo is by Eugene Atget of the declining state of French culture and Old France immediately following WWI.

Thanks for the new thread, I had this reply ready for someone who posted a greek/roman sculpture.
This pose is amazing. I hate that we no longer strive for the sublime, we need a new renaissance.
Why do we give special status to every abnormality instead of venerating human physique?

My specialty is photography, thus that's what I'll be posting until the thread picks up.

>we need a new renaissance.
Agreed, although I think nowadays most artists are too lazy to spend the decades needed to learn high-level technique which the old masters had.
It's much easier to sell some schlock abstract work which takes a few hours to make for several thousand dollars than do any real work. Pic related is a perfect example.
It's all about branding in this day and age.

Speaking of photography, I think the medium is oft-understood as being 'too easy' to be considered real art, even now. Actually, printing technique, gaining soundness in composition, and generally working with the medium takes a long, long time to perfect. Even the great photographers take about a decade to get really good.
Attached is another late Atget.

Atget is one of the great Western photographers because he's a white guy photographing #whiteguythings. No, really. The attention to detail and thoroughness he puts into visually capturing true French culture (before the liberal narrative) is second to none.

Here's Timothy Sullivan, who photographed the US Civil War and American West. He influenced photographers such as the famous Ansel Adams.
Working in the mid-19th century, he still used wet-plates which required a portable darkroom, this was no mean feet. He was the only photographer to have done this at this time.

Since this thread is being mostly ignored, this is my last image.
Here's a Walker Evans, who was the bridge between classical and (((modern))) photography.

I still enjoyed it man, too bad the other thread took off faster.
This is a pic from Russia in 1911
Don't judge, we got, like, three good pieces of American art.

Dude, there are LOADS of good 19th c. American artists. When I took survey of North American art in my BFA years, the text was the size of a phone book.
