Roughly.. the US analogy would be a Senator.

They're both members of the upper house.
>>
>>129471085

That cuts both ways though, the way I see it is its going to be a lot harder for Tory remain MP's to legitimise throwing their toys out of the pram considering they were elected on a manifesto that promised leaving the single market and ending freedom of movement.

Why risk something for that when one of the biggest consequences could be a Labour government that does it anyway?
>>
>>129471568
It used to be the case that you could spend the rest of your life sitting in the House of Lords, annoying governments my amending the laws they were trying to pass, or just having a nice snooze in the subsidised bar.

Things are a little different now, and most (new) members of the House of Lords are appointed.

In real life, being a Lord doesn't mean anything except for social prestige.

Unfortunately this wouldn't actually fix the problem. The problem is that May doesn't have a mandate for a hard Brexit. The House of Lords is therefore entitled to oppose it (see Salisbury convention) as much as they like, even if the House of Commons does manage to pass hard Brexit legislation, which it most likely won't be able to because there are many MPs who would probably rebel against anything like that, and if those MPs were whipped they would just resign one by one until the Tories no longer had a working majority.

DUP have in recent years soared in popularity in Norn Iron. They took over from the UUP (Ulster Unionist Party) and are far more right wing, more sectarian and more right wing than any other mainstream party. They campaigned for brexit and want a hard brexit but a soft border with the Republic because otherwise the troubles would come back.

In the UK there are 650 seats in the entire nation. You need 326 seats to win, so form a majority (it gets a bit boring and complicated because in Northern Ireland, Sinn Fein abstain if they get elected).
The Tories got 317 seats, which means that they're 9 short of a majority. To pass any legislation or laws, you need a majority in Parliament. DUP have 10 seats, so if the Tories can convince the DUP to vote alongside them, they can pass legislation.
However, in the UK it passes a lot of power to the DUP and they can make demands of the government for guarantees on voting for laws.

For singing and for dancing,
I hope that I'll please thee,
I can sing and dance with any man,

And on the Twelfth I long to wear,
The Sash My Father Wore,

I'ts old but it is beautiful,
It's colours they are fine,
It was worn at 'Derry, Aughrim, Enniskillen,
And the Boyne,
My father wore it as a youth,
In byegone days of yore,
So on the Twelfth I proudly wear,
The Sash My Father Wore.

It's now I'm going to leave you,
Good luck to you I say,
And when I'm on the ocean,
For me I hope you'll pray,
I'm going to my native home,
To a place they call Dromore,
Where on the Twelfth I always were,
The Sash My Father wore.

The election was actually a good idea. David Davis wanted it since a bigger majority would have made a hard Brexit easier to push through and it looked like they would get a bigger majority at the time. The terrible campaign was the major fuck up. The other fuck up was that left-wing UKIP voters and the hard left minor parties that backed a hard Brexit suddenly backed the soft Brexit party, when all they had to do was vote Conservative this one time. I don't want to accuse socialists of being stupid, but it is rather telling, given that the average socialist gets the Jewish problem up to a point, that they haven't figured out that socialism is a Jewish scam designed to kill social mobility.

>>129473520
No, it is true. The Salisbury convention doesn't help us because she didn't get an outright majority and thus the convention doesn't apply to this parliament. That's right, we're fucked.

>DUP have in recent years soared in popularity in Norn Iron

DUP had their worst performance in history at the assembly election this year. For the first time there is no unionist majority in Stormont so they are by no means soaring in popularity. The reason they picked up UUP seats in the GE is because Nesbitt committed political suicide in the last election by suggesting a cross community voting pact with the SDLP.
>>
>>129474716
You know as well as I do that the DUP got fucked because Arlene Foster fucked up, not because unionism suddenly dropped in popularity.

I wasn't suggesting unionism has dropped in popularity, just the DUP. And yes most of it is due to Arlene Foster. More and more unionists are seeing through the "keep Sinn Fein out" slogan that is the DUP's entire platform, and realising you can be a unionist without voting DUP. You just have to vote to stay in the union in the event of a border poll.

I'll give you the police state sure, but they specifically promised to reduce immigration to 30 times less than it is now. Do I think they'd actually do it? Probably not, but considering Corbyn didn't want to cap immigration at all, Tories were still the better option.
If you didn't vote or voted for anyone other than Conservatives you almost handed the country over to a literal fucking Marxist. Do you think he WOULDNT make the country a police state too? His plan to combat terror was more police, and we've seen how the police prioritise. They apparently can't track jihadis but they will kick in your door for "hate speech". Corbyn even wanted internet regulation, except he didn't even pretend it was to combat terror, he was just blunt that he's after "misogynists and islamophobes"

None such thing you faggot. And what was St. Augustine doing in England, then? And if they didn't take much direction from Rome, what was all the controversy about Henry 8's breach with Rome? Of course they took direction from Rome: everyone did. This ridiculous historical reconstruction necessary to justify the anomoly of breaking with Rome is just a desperate attempt to justify it after the fact. It's fucking nothing.
Saint Thomas the Martyr wouldn't break with Rome. How come? Why were so many Englishmen named after him? Why was his fidelity to the Church celebrated both in England and around Christendom?
How come so much of the population remained Catholic even after the breach with Rome under Henry the 8? How come the Tudors had to viciously squash and slaughter so many people who were irate with the government toying with their religious customs and liturgy and despoiling their churches and monasteries?
Like every revolutionary, you need to rewrite history after the fact to give a pretense of continuity and legitimacy. In reality, it was an act of violence - and under Henry the 8, the Reformation was barely even Protestant or religiously motivated. It was primarily about power and wealth.

Do you have any sources for this? I know that at the time the Reformist/anti-investiture party had basically predominated in the Roman and many other Churches. To my knowledge backing William was motivated because the then king of England wasn't instituting, on his end, the reform program. I never read or heard any claim that the Church in England was outright heretical or schismatic. Indeed, the Pope would chastise William for being too brutal to his very much Christian subjects in dominating them.

With you in the centre map out orrery fashion, all the cunts you know of in every increasing orbits of fear and mistrust . the bigger the cunt the farther their orbit from you.

When you have established who is the biggest group of cunts at the most extreme orbit,

then contact all the minor cunts, they too have been conducting the same exercise and may even contact you first.

When you both look at each others charts you find that both of you, although still mutually identifying as cunts have at the extreme a come distant adversary.
As more and more hitherto hostile groups begins to explore the distant orbits of their respective maps and find that each and everyone of you has placed at their most extreme orbit - kebab.

Hence what you are seeing is an epic summer of love commence in the UK

Today Manchester's poofs & white van men join in common song against kebab
Tomorrow DUP and remnants of Irish republicans come together resentful of current Tory appeasement to kebab.
Bigots and far right look with new respect on poles gypsies slavs for sharing the common dream of drinking Pylskie at the bustop un molested by kebab.
English little Englanders begin to discern kebab from Sihks hindus and Ahhamdyia and find these people are actually ok.

no. A hard brexit means tarrif on trade, border controls and no trade deal with not just the EU27 but the other 258 (or around that) other trade deals that the EU has done and from which the UK benefits. hard Brexit means queues from London to Dover for trucks being processed through customs (although no one is building customs posts or hiring customs staff) and just wait til they get to france - think the Calais authorities will want to pay for all those staff and new buildings? No one is considering this.

MAyhem. So our over seas trade falls by a fair few percent - and we have a lousy deal from the US (why would they give us a good one? America First, yes?) and no trade terms with the rest of the world.

Average time to negotiae a trade deal - three to five years. Each. Needing hundreds of trained lawyers and negotiators.

Brexit, ahrd or soft, means chaos and economic meltdown

and this is not a scare story, this is the truth.

So no we don't want a hard Brexit. Our entire economy is irrevocably intertwined with the EU. We are a vital part at the heart of the EU with immense power in the EU

the only people who want a hard Brexit are economic illiterates and Vladimir Putin.

because it was a tiny majority of those who bothered to vote, a minority of the country supported it. because the vote was suborned by lies and fantasy - now people are realising the truth and the liars (Farage and Johnson in particular) are exposed, fewer people actually support it.

The Leave campaign lied on an industrial scale, thinking it was all a lot of fun, not expecting to win. when they did it was almost funny to see their horror. Now they are stuck with it, and trying to work out a way to reverse it. Letting the horror build, fucking it up mightily, and resulting in a deal that is to horrible to support, so they can back out and get back to proper business.

You think that leaving the Eu will change the number coming from Syria and Iraq? how?

you think a trade deal with India won't involve immigration deal?

dream on. Racism is not a sufficient reason to throw away a quarter of your export market adn raise prices on half your imports/ Plus all the other advantages of a visa free holiday continent.

which are recovering economies that if properly invested in (rather than being strangled by bad austerity programs that fucked them over for years) would be fine to be with.

Not saying the Eu is perfect 9far from it - we should remain in and reform it - can't do that from outside) and to be frank Greece should never have been allowed to join the euro - but the UK economy is joined at the body to the EU - and cutting out our liver and spleen and one leg saying "we will be better off" is not good medicine.

except that we always had sovereignty (the Leave lie was a lie) and we could have had more control of immigration under the EU, we just didn't/ Also, any new trade deal with any country will these days include immigration issues. may wants more trade with India - India already said needs more immigration rights. may wants trade with EU - will have to allow free movement. Otherwise WTO rules - tarrifs, and death of UK economy.

Little Britain isn't an option.

Seems possible but it's also possible that they thought voting Conservative was such a no brainer that they didn't need a great campaign. Also worth remembering that Corbyn's campaign was actually laughably bad as well, and I certainly don't think that was deliberate. And even though both campaigns were awful, both parties increased their vote shares significantly. I don't think the campaigns mattered that much but the Conservatives maybe could have gone after Corbyn's policies rather than his character, May could also have tried not to seem quite so autistic and, yeah, they shouldn't have gone with those risky policies either.

>>Fewer retarded and restrictive regulations

arguable. How about a few examples (not bendy bananas that was a lie Boris made up)

More to the point, you want to sell your stuff in the EU - you will have to meet their regulations. Ok for a local producer, but for any exporter they will now have to show they meet EU regs, and they will have huge paperwork. And UK will have no voice in the making of new regulations. Say the Germans want to make all electrical products use german made capacitors. We have no say, can't stop them doing it, we have to comply to export. many industries in Uk will be affected by pro EU member regulations that the UK would otherwise have stopped - and the Uk will be left behind.

>>More authority for British courts

actually... not much. Very few British court cases go to europe. and the ECHR is not an EU body...

>>Not having to be part of the bizarre superstate that the EU will eventually be

Oh yes, how wonderful. we will be that little island off shore from the powerful state on the continent, with no influence.

so he will do a deal to benefot the little people of the UK?

get the fuck out of here. He does deals to benefit himself. That is all. You or me benefitting is not part of his thinking. And america first means UK second (or fiftieth - because the Eu is a bigger market and the loss of the UK as a door into it means a lot of US companies will be moving from UK to other Eu countries and he wants to help them get into that big market, not piss about with Little Britain.)

get real, and stop drinking the romantic special relationship drugs. The best the Uk will get is roofies

>have you any good arguments then?
You haven't refuted any of my arguments btw, you happen to not agree that these things are a problem. But if you want more, how about the fact that the EU is tanking and we won't have to bail all these countries out. How about the fact that the eurozone will inevitably collapse because these countries cannot devalue their own currencies any more because they don't have them.
