That's rich. The Catholic Church and its popes actually waged wars (yes wars!) for petty greedy land grabs and maintaining its secular power. Instead of focusing on the spiritual aspects to guide the flock, it instead focused on worldly matters in direct contradiction to Christ's commands (Matthew 6:19–20). And that's just the surface. There's also the whole thing about indulgences, the extravagance of the clergy (seriously, look at the parties the priests, cardinals and popes held in Rome) and popes living lives that would put the Game of Thrones plots and wickedness for expanding political power to shame.

The true Church of Christ is not supposed to rule over men, it's supposed to guide it and nourish it (Matthew 6:25-26).

I was baptized as a kid so I get to be lax about it.
As for the immaculate conception, iirc, the immaculate conception used to mean that Mary got an exception from the original sin. All men and women have those but God removed it from Mary. Then since many religions around the jews had heroes/gods born from virgins the two meanings became completely intertwined and that's how we ended up with it.

But my theology course was over 7 years ago so I don't remember.

The most important thing in my eyes about the catholic church is the sacraments, the confession and the holy communion. When I feel my faith is really unsteady I go to mass a bit more and the holy communion reminds me of the existence and true power of christ.

If you want to LARP as a christian, then this is what the Catholic Church does.

If you are a true Christian, you have already or are coming to the realization that you should reject the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church is corrupt. They do not follow the faith properly. They do things that The Bible says are wrong to do, and they seem to have no knowledge of what is laid out in the Book.

Protestantism doesn't mean anything. Protestantism can mean anyone that has rejected the Catholic Church. Protestants don't have any centralized church and the Kingdom of God is within the heart and the mind of whom wherein. There really isn't anything that is truly definitely "Protestant." This is a name Catholics use to pigeon-hole their enemy into one category so they can launch attacks on all simultaneously.

If you are a true Christian you have, but are not limited to, these such things:

-You have come to the realization that there is a God and you accepted it.

-You have realized humans are deeply flawed and sinful and that is why God came down here and died as a human, to make up for the flaws of our character and give us an undeserving ticket into Heaven. He paid the price with his own blood to balance the scales for us.

-You read the Bible and try to understand God's will even deeper.

Now with all this, you may look at the Catholic Church and realize they don't follow many things that were laid out in The Bible. They seem to ignore many simple things God has said.

For instance, God said that we were not to make a false image of Him or anything else and pray to it. This is important. God said not to make "false images" and this actually includes Himself as well. You cannot make a statue of Yahweh (God) and pray to it. You cannot do this with anything else either. It says you must pray to God directly and put nothing before Him and you.

What do Catholics do? They make a mock up of Mother Mary and pray to it.
