Compliance with the law depends on religion. There may be some people with their own moral compass that can be relied upon to do the right thing. But too many people need an all-seeing authority figure to ensure proper behavior. Santa Claus, God, etc.

Pascal's Wager doesn't apply to atheists.

Furthermore, Pascal's Wager works equally well for any other religion.

In fact, I can come up with a religion that is just not doing anything religious and living my life as usual, and it would be as equally valid as christcuckity.

So I'm going to go with seculanity.

Maybe the people who started religions had an understanding of social norms. Maybe the people who made early laws were religious.
