It was always there but you had to look for it: Black and white united against a common enemy, America as an idea or a system of values rather than a flesh and blood nation and outgrowth of European civilization. Bad guys always representing some group that had stood up to the new world order e.g. Germany or South Africa.

You're correct. Looking at 80's films, its easy to call them "redpilled" simply because there arte masculine male characters that are capable of understanding 'risk vs reward', but in the end, all of that was just a delivery method for grade-A bluepills.

Why did they even go after the South Africans in the franchise? I mean do people not even think logically about anything?
South Africa has never been the enemy of America as a country or as a government, South Africa just like Australia or Britain or Canada historically was always a faithful ally of the United States whether in the World Wars or in the Cold War, when South Africa did the dogwork of fighting Communist countries in Africa.
In that movie, they basically used viewers' ignorance about the country to portray it as just another of America's obscure enemies. Appalling really.

I'm a civic nationalist myself - as are Trump and Bannon - but I don't see Die Hard as playing the civic nationalism card.
There is a "based black" cop, but there's also an asshole black FBI agent, and the bad guy black nerd hacker.
The movie is striking for being skeptical about police, FBI, and media, with a few exceptions who do the right thing. The movie is skeptical about politically correct thinking.
Bruce Willis does come off as something of a neo-John Wayne hero -- a can-do American who refuses to play by the rules and gets shit done that the higher-ups cannot.
