The cost associated with enforcing criminalization of cannabis is too high, and banning cannabis only profits the black market and criminal organizations.

I have. And I was one. I wrote a little essay for social studies class in 7th grade supporting legalization. It just made sense. I didn't even try it until 12 years later. Addiction is a cultural issue which wont be solved by govt. Legalisation saves police time, funding and builds a better rapport with their local communities. Haha. Moderation is the key to anything, but I know and have known too many lives destroyed by alcohol. At some point, usually after getting married and having kids, heads just stop smoking or just hit it on occasion. I've only known a couple of burnouts who wasted their lives in devotion to cannabis, but that was their choice, just like all the alcoholics I've known.

I don't smoke weed or drink/use drugs, phrama either but I am completely for pot legalization. I'd personally prefer strictly medical but I'm fine with recreational. Alcohol seems far more harmful for users and others around the user.

I smoked weed a few times and didn't enjoy its effects. Actually, sativa actually doesn't feel like degenerate stoner drug at all, it's kinda energetic, but I still didn't really like it.
Despite this, I believe that weed must be legalized: it's not too harmful for the society, so it wouldn't be unethical thing to do, and legalisation also means that a lot of money will now come to the government/decent citizens instead of crime. And for me, it feels actually stupid how many people go to jail for such a fucking laughable thing as having weed with them.

Alcohol as a cultural product has existed for a long time but you disregard that mostly it was low % of alcohol and it was mixed with other drugs. Before the purity laws that made humulus lupus, hops, the only side ingredient. It now exist in all beer and is a plant so closely related to weed that they can be cross-bred. When you drink a beer to relax you get the effects from the hops and feel calm. Like weed. But if you drink a lot the alcohol takes primary effect.

High % alcohol is very degenerate and has historically been used as a weapon of conquest on cultures that have no experience with it; from firewater in America to the Danish conquest of Greenland.
