The sectarianism revolves around nationalist Iranians and Arabs, as in people currently living in those countries. I knew one who was a lawyer in Iran, fled in the 80's, and became the hardest working American I've ever seen, going from yardwork to white collar in a couple of years. He never became a lawyer again, but last I saw he was studying architecture in his spare time.
